Re: Europe, the not boring thread
Though I will concede that the people who had a hand in founding this country were vast majority white. I don't think it's really relevant to their personalities or culture.
Somehow make all Anglo Saxon people purple and it won't be their purpleness that made them dominate the world, it's their culture.
Unless of course you are advocating that white people have some kind of inherent genetic superiority....

Especially when the biggest group of Americans are descended from Germans. Eisenhower-people, you know.Viktorthepirate wrote:Though I will concede that the people who had a hand in founding this country were vast majority white. I don't think it's really relevant to their personalities or culture.

And European culture has a lot of influence from Germany...

Interesting bit of history is that Bismarck helped usher in the welfare state because Germans were leaving in droves to the US.

More of a counterstrategy against socialists: make the reforms they want without the evil and ruinous ideology.Viktorthepirate wrote: Interesting bit of history is that Bismarck helped usher in the welfare state because Germans were leaving in droves to the US.
And anyway, we forget how dominant Germans are in Europe. In the Austrian Empire the now-called Austrians thought themselves as German (hence Hitler had no problem with the Anschluss). After the ugly things that happened in WW2, the "Austrian" identity was quickly invented. And now naturally people there think of them as Austrians, not Germans.
It would have interesting what would have happened if Germany would have been unified through Austro-Hungarian Empire and not by Prussia.

Yep, that too. Bismarck is such an interesting guy.
Yea, though from what I've read they weren't too well liked. I am just finishing Stalingrad by Antony Beevor and the Germans were shitting on their Austrian troops all the time lol.
I think it would have been a disaster if they absorbed Austria Hungary. All those illiterate, not shared culture, citizens would have lead to a lot of internal strife.
Not to mention I'm sure the Hungarian nobility would have demanded a lot etc etc

It has everything to do with it.
Check out a book titled Troublesome Inheritance. Subtle differences in genetic behavior result in drastic differences in societies. The founding principles of this nation are not shared by other peoples. Hell, they are barely even shared outside the British Isles. There are reasons for this. Human beings are not blank slates that get programmed with arbitrary cultural operating systems. It simply does not work that way.

There were a bunch of Austrians who wanted to be a part of Germany well before Hitler. Hitler didn't like his Austrian heritage because of the disjointedness of the Hapsburg empire.ssu wrote:More of a counterstrategy against socialists: make the reforms they want without the evil and ruinous ideology.Viktorthepirate wrote: Interesting bit of history is that Bismarck helped usher in the welfare state because Germans were leaving in droves to the US.

Yea, but in that time period you likely wouldn't have been able to get Austria without Austria Hungary.heydaralon wrote:There were a bunch of Austrians who wanted to be a part of Germany well before Hitler.
