People in both parties and on both sides have been screaming this for decades. So far, they have been treated as dangerous, naive, idiots at best and speed bumps at worse. Just look at the Democratic leadership since the election. I think the smell of greenbacks will keep overwhelming any sense.Speaker to Animals wrote:If Trump signs it, he could lose bigly. I think a lot of people are operating on false assumptions of what motivates various voters right now. We have bogus left-right narratives, democrat versus republican, or whatever the fuck else. I am telling you right now, the people who got him there don't give a flying fuck about libertarianism or "free market" woo woo. He will lose huge support. It seems trivial to the libertarians who have for so long trashed the republican party, but I am telling you, this will fucking hurt him. Listening to these people is why the GOP almost died before Trump came along. These people are cancer. Stop listening to them.
The guiding principle is to put the American people first. Not an ideology first. Not ISPs first. The American people. Every time he strays from that, he risks everything.

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

I think not a single Democrat voted for the bill though. Something is up.

Google (and Adobe and probably a few others) already have our data and they don't want ISP's in the same market and making the data less valuable. The software companies just want to become more monopolistic and more tied to the government that makes internet regulations.
I don't want our data to be sold but the regulation that is being repealed was cronyism meant to kill some of Google's competition without actually protecting our data from being sold. And the FCC are the people that make sure nobody says cuss words on the radio, they aren't defenders of free speech that we should put our faith in.
Google, Facebook, and Twitter are the ones slowly censoring people that say non-progressive things. Comcast and Verizon are big douchebag companies but I don't think they care if you're using their cable connection to post political views they disagree with. They're making money regardless of how you use your internet connection.
I think this was a shady deal between Google and the government and now that Hillary didn't win and the GOP is repealing the regulation ithas become a huge distraction and an opportunity for the left to turn more people against Trump. It's a very successful "narrative" that Obama and pals cooked up. They have the media completely misrepresenting what is happening and it divides Trump supporters and gives the bullshit impression that Obama's administration was protecting our privacy.

But google didn't sell our data... oh wait. But this means ISPs can but I thought we had to provide consent and who exactly are they selling it to? I mean I don't want my data sold at all much less to a future employer.

I don't want that either and we certainly should have to provide consent but all they are doing is repealing something that went into effect in 2017. Employers will have the same access to ISP tracking information that they did last year.TheReal_ND wrote:But google didn't sell our data... oh wait. Well, I guess we can just stop browsing the internet. You know, do whatever we did before the 90's.
