Residents of The Gambia aren't pelted with advertising and consumer culture from birth. They are brought up in a culture that actually values family and clan.

It's not the size of your equipment but how you use it that matters.TheReal_ND wrote:Ask the dirty hippy Monte for pictures of his house van kitchen. I don't do all that I just eat of cans.

So do lobsters, scallops, cod, and a few other things I'm sure you enjoy. When it comes to flavor, the mussels and clams in the NE taste the same when cooked that way. Fried is when they taste different.Speaker to Animals wrote:California wrote:Not at all. I thought he lived close to a coast?Speaker to Animals wrote:
Not the same thing you yankee heathen.
And its "mussels"
Whatever. I won't eat those nasty things. They literally eat shit for living.
Also, the difference between clams and oysters are dependent on where they are raised. The water makes all the difference. If you stay in the NE, all shelled creatures like clams and mussels will taste the same.
On a side note, if you don't get US versions of scallops, you are probably eating skate.

Dude, that is baller. I want more info on how you make homemade pasta.
Also, could I interest you in some 100% organic wheat?
The way I make pasta:
1.5 cups of Semolina Flour
1.5 cups of 00 Flour.
2 eggs
Salt, a thumbnail''s amount (tea spoon)
⅓ cup olive oil
½ cup water.
Combine into a ball till smoothish texture, wrap in Saranwrap and put in fridge for 20 min.
Once done make your pasta. Depending on your stove it may be fast or normal cooking time, but fresh pasta cooks faster normally.
The "cheap way"
Substitute 00 Flour with general purpose Flour.

You make time. It's as simple as that.Hastur wrote:What the fuck happened to American food culture. It's a fucking disgrace when ordinary poor people can't fucking cook for themselves anymore. It use to be a question of pride. "No matter what happens I can put a hot meal in front of my kids." How much is a bag of dried beans? Some canned tomatoes and the cheapest beef? Get a grip.
I've been to the homes of some poor immigrants from all over the world in some pretty cramped conditions. No one of them could afford restaurant meals or semifinished food. Didn't matter. Always a pot of some kind of stew on. It's for fucking pride. You got the whole thing with empowerment and entitlement all mixed up. You need to get a grip or perish for fucks sake.
Two year ago I went to The Gambia in West Africa. Most people lacked refrigerators and few had electricity. They went to the market, bought what was needed for a meal, and cooked it right away. Cheap ingredients like chicken, fish, rise, potatoes, tomatoes, stock cubes, onions, lemons and beans. They made great food. It's not that fucking hard.
When I was young I used to visits some friends who lived in the kind of hippy communes that were popular in the '60s and '70s. Same thing there. Always a pot on the stove with a simple hardy meal. Where's your dignity?

The making pasta is the easy part, either get a rolling pin and a pasta blade and cut it by hand or something like this.
https://www.amazon.com/Norpro-1049-Past ... B0009SS6BI
If you use either, make sure you have a little bit of flour to spread on whatever surface you are going to work on... the pasta dough should be fine, but sometimes if measurements are off the pasta can be sticky. If it is, then use the four to make it more malleable.
Also if you use the machine, you still need to roll it out to a thickness the machine can handle, so either way a rolling pin would be useful, or your hands if you aren't worried about getting "dirty".
Also, you should make enough pasta for several meals, that amount of showed you was 1/3 of a ball of pasta.

Also, ravioli is always fun to make too.

I used the same thing to make the pizza bites.
