Re: Meanwhile in Iraq & Syria
I'm fine with you guys crusading, onward Christian Soldiers and all that, I just don't want to hear any bleating and whining after, from the troops who joined the All Volunteer Force and signed the Contract of Unlimited Liability, about how they are hard done by, for having assumed the Unlimited Liability that they did, and all the consequences therein, without me nor anybody else, holding a gun to their heads.
You take the Queen's Schilling of your own free will, you go and see the Elephant on your discretion, don't come crying to me later, about how the government isn't giving you everything you were "promised", read the fine print now, before you sign, jackwagons.

I just spent another day giving the question more thought. There is no reasonable explanation for Assad doing a gas attack on ~100 people last week that I can come up with.
I'm feeling extremely skeptical at the moment.

You don't beleive there was any gas attack at all, total wag the dog fabrication, or you don't believe Assad & Co used gas, but rebels or someone else did, as a frame job?Fife wrote:I just spent another day giving the question more thought. I believe in the gas, based on the evidence I see. The price of a few dozen Syrian kids and loafers is ridiculously cheap to these people. I just suspect it didn't go down the way it's being laid out for me.Smitty-48 wrote:You don't beleive there was any gas attack at all, total wag the dog fabrication, or you don't believe Assad & Co used gas, but rebels or someone else did, as a frame job?Fife wrote:I just spent another day giving the question more thought. Gas is no problem, you can have all the gas you need for any operation on demand.

If you beleive in the gas, and that it is available, why would you doubt that Assad & Co would be willing to drop some on them from time to time, just to show that they ain't beat, they still swinging for the fences, and so their forces shouldn't quit, and their enemies shouldn't think that this is anywhere close to being over?Fife wrote:I believe in the gas, based on the evidence I see. It's not like Assad is worried about what America or whoever is going to do about it, nobody can strike in earnest with the Russians in the way, and he's got bigger problems anyways, holding the rebels at bay and keeping his forces fighting, is all that matters, buncha TLAM's; big whoop.
Bear in mind, if the rebels overrun them, Assad & Co; they're all dead meat, so he really doesn't have anything to lose, might as well go for broke.

I don't doubt--for a second--the willingness to kill children and non-combatants, when it suits his needs. The strategic weakness of "ain't beat," "still swinging for the fences," &c., though, under current conditions, however, is self-evident.Smitty-48 wrote:If you beleive in the gas, and that it is available, why would you doubt that Assad & Co would be unwilling to drop some on them from time to time, just to show that they ain't beat, they still swinging for the fences, and so their forces shouldn't quit, and their enemies shouldn't think this is anywhere close to be over?Fife wrote:I believe in the gas, based on the evidence I see. Assad gets a big fat zero out of the chemical attack last week.
Qui bono, is all I'm sayin'.
