You shouldn't be too worried about people wanting too many hyper expensive medical procedures covered on the public dime, at least if you had a universal federal public option, the death panels will take care of that. There will be no $400,000 a minute expenditures on taxpayer dollars for anyone who doesn't pay for it themselves, bet that. There is no government on the planet who would cover anything like that, they have better shit to spend it on.

You wouldn't scrap the private health care that the wealthy would pay out of pocket for, don't be ridiculous, that's like something Canada would do and drive all our best doctors away so they can get payed by a nation who isn't dumb enough to scrap the private system. That's what they will want. If Trump pivots and supports a public option to pick up what the private market cannot, I guarantee most of the left will demand full socialized medicine in return.
