No free pass for any of them over the others. I just don't think the IC even bothers notifying the President of what they're doing. Congress authorizes a bigass black budget, and the money falls into a hole somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if the Executive learned about Prism along with the rest of us.C-Mag wrote:GrumpyCatFace wrote:C-Mag wrote:Obama was spying on everyone, and breaking the Constitution.

Constitutional violations, someone needs to go to jail.
Personally, I doubt they have any fucking clue.
You guys have been underestimating Trump from the start, aren't you tired of getting your ass kicked by him?
The intelligent thing to do is take him seriously.
Don't worry, I do. As I blame Shrub and BJ for what they did as well.If you'd like to blame Obama for the NSA actions of the last 8 years, then you'll have to blame Trump for what they're (still) doing now.
Why do you want to give Hussein O a free pass ?

I'll bet you they meant '5% of everyone's information and communication', not 5% of the people. Word games are fun.C-Mag wrote: October 26, 2016:
At closed-door hearing before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, the Obama administration disclosed that it had been violating surveillance safeguards, according to Circa. It disclosed that more than 5 percent of its searches of the NSA’s database violated safeguards promised in 2011.
NOTE: The Obama Administration estimated it had collected 5% of Americans information and communication. If you do the math that affects 16,500,000 Americans

There's no way around it, we are going to be discussing this a lot more in the coming future. First, we now have proof that the Obama Administration violated the law, not in isolated cases but as a routine way of doing business. Second, this program is up for renewal this Fall and has to be decided on by the end of the year. This directly affects Americans, sadly most of the media is not covering it.
A good overview of what is going on from Circa, they have been great on this - http://circa.com/politics/russia-unmask ... ntha-power

Honestly, I don't think the media knows what to do with an actual story anymore. The NSA probing our digital lives is so disturbing, that it could actually shake the society. Yet, we get dribs and drabs of coverage on the fun-story-hours.
I suspect they've either A) had their licenses threatened, or B) simply realized that this is too big to make a splash with, and don't want to be responsible for the fury of the masses. There is also option C) that the corporate boards are fine with this, and decided it's best to help cover up. I want to say this is unlikely, but.... corporate.
Either way, it's a pretty bizarre situation that we find ourselves in. This moment will most definitely be looked at with interest, by historians.

I agree.
Watching the testimony of guys like Brennan you realize that this problem is huge, and systemic. There was far too many times I've watched these Intel Community folks testify or be interviewed and they withhold information for the private meetings. This to me is where they are avoiding telling the public the true nature of spying on us, to avoid as you say, the furry of the masses.

Only an idiot would ignore the possibility of being spied upon by their own government. Take it as a granted and you will be more truthful to yourself. It was only a matter of time that it was going to happen anyway. How else is the government meant to protect us from enemies foreign and domestic?C-Mag wrote:+1GrumpyCatFace wrote:Honestly, I don't think the media knows what to do with an actual story anymore. By (at a bare minimum) holding true to its own ideals. It seems that you'll be first in line to surrender your freedom for security. All the decades of the Right braying about guns, for this exact reason, but when the government does an end-around, they're silent. Unbelievable.

Then you don't know me from a hole in the wall if you think that's true. I have so many security systems built into my network that I know when someone's knocking at my door before they even think about it. I can tell you who is roaming around outside, what type of system they are using, what OS and also if they have the latest patches installed if they have not taken precautions.GrumpyCatFace wrote:By (at a bare minimum) holding true to its own ideals. I have been attacked by China, by Russia, and the US... none have gotten through, and not from a lack of trying. I have their IPs and sometimes their MAC addresses if their systems are insecure while trying to hack me...
I personally think the NSA, the CIA, FBI, and the rest of the alphabet soup have to be torn down and put back up to the roles they were designed for originally, but this time 100% data and information sharing between all agencies. There is no reason why we are seeing what we are beyond those who are willing to give up their freedoms for security.
I never said that its right to do so, I said only an idiot would ignore the fact that they are... with everything that has come out as of late, you'd be a fool not to think so. There is a reason I have the stances I do, and the reasons I do what I do...
There is also a reason why I have learned how to make ghost guns as well, because I don't trust the government.

Oh, I don't have any illusions about what the government is doing. We are at the point in history where we turn over all personal transparency to the government, or reign it back in with controls. If we do not, it takes little imagination to see that the future probably includes thought crimes.
Are we willing to take personal responsibility for our safety over giving up all personal privacy to the government ? That is the key question for all of us

That is where I am as well. It's time for a total reset on our Intel Community. The following is not an attempt to drag this into the political, just my opinion.
The last 16 years has made them so powerful that the Intel Community feels they are more powerful than the POTUS. A group of unelected Bureaucrats in tandem with the Gang of Eight. IMO, this group is directly challenging to future direction of the country and who holds power, the POTUS or the Intel Community.
