Arch is good. I'm not savy enough to use it let alone configure it yetSpeaker to Animals wrote:I am going to just run arch linux on this machine and delete Windows forever.

I hear good things about that one. I'm trying to figure out how to upgrade libuntu to xubuntu but I'm not really sure what the difference is. As far as I can tell xubuntu is just Ubuntu without the Amazon cancer built in and libuntu is a really pared down form of Ubuntu using libre code that shifts processing to RAM.

Use a live CD on the USB. I found some of th n don't work but there are lots on the internet for free. If your laptop is that old the CD drive might be junk. They don't last that long.

You don't understand. Windows somehow decided to corrupt the registry for the CD ROM drive. I had to fix all that bullshit. Now I have to hope I can reboot with my CD.

Debian - much bigger and better software library....use gnome 3.
Ubuntu and it's sub-flavors is becoming more and more like the Microsoft of the Linux universe.
Fuck Arch - might as well go OpenBSD.

I used opened for a while.
If I want full features, I will just go back to Kubuntu.
All I need is NetBeans for Java development and a python editor. I don't need a bunch of crap. I can customize it later.

Fuck Java - go with mono and C# - it's a better framework by far.
