Based on how they run Red Flag now, the USAF is more likely to put the money towards the B-21 Raider, F-22's and F-35's fly inside the threat envelop finding targets for joint fires, but those joint fires are more often being launched from B-1B's. F-15's are only being used for OPFOR.

The F-15X carries 22 missiles, man. Holy shit that thing is a beast.

F-22 does the main fighting but he has the F-15X behind him to launch on command, hand off missiles, whatever.

They're not buying F-15X.

They do want missile/bomb trucks for the 5Gens, but that is going to be B-1B until the arrival of B-21 Raider.

B-21 Raider is the future, the USAF wants mo bombers.

Electronic Warfare gets it's own platform.

The issue with these stealth fighters is the overall cost to purchase and fly them, but also the problem with their paltry payload. F-22 is pretty solid as those things go with eight missiles (I think it's something like 6 AIM-120 and 2 AIM-9).

F-15X gives you support capabilities for that while retaining a fair amount of air superiority that an F-35 just is never going to deliver.

You have to remember that the F-35 was initially designed to just replace shitty filler aircraft like the F-16, not to be the main thing for air superiority.

The Air Force got fucked over by this rent-seeking from LMC, and that means Americans got fucked over if God forbid we ever go to war with a real adversary.

Boeing (and earlier Macdonald Douglas) has always been a superior contractor and aircraft producer anyway.

Just in a terms of comparing the two, F-15X has superior range, performance, payload, and cost. It's cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain.

There never really was any reason for the USAF to get into the F-35 boondoggle to begin with. That airframe is not that effective for air superiority.

The F-35 is the lo end of the hi-lo mix, but for American allies, F-35 is a game changer, F-35 allows American allies to be in the American sensor to shooter chain, negating the need for large formations of American ground forces to have to protect these forwards positions.

Instead, America will stand off, Prompt Global Strike, and project power from the sea.

F-35 performs three roles.

Replace 4th Gen Lo with 5th Gen Lo for American Hi-Lo mix.

Replace all allied 4th Gen with American 5th Gen, cornering the market while ensuring total integration.

Thus rendering so much firepower unto the allies, America doesn't have to send a REFORGER to save them.

In terms of survivablilty, rather than Supercruise, the F-35 exploits EODAS, which allows it to operate adaptive and dispersed and without the need for AWACS, exponential ISR platform which does not have to fly formation, because nothing can sneak up on it.
