What's the "red line" here?
If this "timeline" doesn't start with the Bush administration and it's activities, then it's your ordinary one-sided party hack reporting.
But hey, where would you find that reporter that is critical both to Republicans and Democrats when both start unlawful/unconstituional operations/actions.
Not that W expanded spying on Americans wasn't important, this thread topic is about BHO and his spying and how it led to spying on Trump. Just staying on topic.
Start a W spying thread if you like.
Stay on topic? Really?
What has the mass gathering of intel on ordinary Americans that Clapper lied about be about "staying on topic"? In the same category of "Obama starting the war in Afghanistan" I presume. Because those programs were started during the W years. So bit confused with that timeline. Or is your line that eavesdropping is simply rampant in the US?
If you would truly stay on topic, then I the focus should be the
actual FISA court decision that FBI got. Which is likely on mr. Carter Page. That is the thing which brought the FBI to look at the thing. First would be that someone that does have so close relations with Russian spies would get to be an advisor of an Presidential candidate. But would that be enough?
The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.
The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.
This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents. Such contacts are now at the center of an investigation into whether the campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in Trump’s favor.
See
FBI obtained FISA warrant to monitor Trump adviser Carter Page.
So the next thing there would be the question of what is the probable cause that they got the FISA warrant? That's what for you ought to be the real "conspiracy" that Obama did, which made the "totally innocent" Page the focus of a counterespionage case.
Wildest conspiracy theory puts it that there's even a tape about direct collusion that Page went with to Moscow. (See
Conspiracy blogger: Carter Page went to Russia with secret recording of Trump asking Putin to hack election) Well, assuming that it would be true, that would be quite easy for the FBI to make the case... which makes sound like more in the pizzagate realm of things.
But the Congress investigations and the FBI investigation will go on, for months. Likely we will know later.
