Owning gold won't necessarily help you in a total collapse. If that happened, the most critical factors are your location, your membership in a clan or tribe of people who will look out for one another and know how to fight, your access to weapons, and the means to produce food and clean water. Gold comes into play much later on, during the reorganization -- if you survive.

People who believe they can hoard gold to survive a collapse are being silly. It's as if they think it will be like today, only the normal currency doesn't work. LOL

If you can't fight, have nothing to offer, can't produce food, etc., then you die. It doesn't matter how much gold you have. Your gold will be taken from you anyway.

If you actually believe this is a possibility, then start training with firearms. Move to the hills. Learn how to farm. Keep a larder and a good supply of seeds. Don't bother with the gold.
