Back to the Spanish Civil War, the Republicans had all the advantages. They held international support, including from the USA to some extent but a great deal of support from USSR.

Franco had limited support from Portugal.

Republicans controlled the government and military for the most part. Franco just had the African forces.

Republicans had overwhelming assets, including most of the navy, air force, and more tanks, artillery, etc.

But..

The leftists kept purging the police and military of anybody who was not a true believer in the cause. Any man who believed in God could not in good conscience support the republiceither because of their anti-Christian policies of exterminating Catholics.

They drove out or killed all the good officers. The ones who survived landed in a nationalist zone and joined up with the winning team.

Nationalists were well-ordered and disciplined with a strong heirarchy. Republicans were fractured with communists, anarchists, and anti-clerical secularists infighting.

Early on the Republicans began reassigning nationalist officers to odd locations and removing them from important commands as a preemptive strike. This only pushed those officers towards rebellion, and when the government makes itself the enemy of God, it will easily lose the best officers no matter what.

All of that shit is already in place today. Our left is quite a lot like those evil degenerates from back in the day.

And our nationalists will make Francoists look like fucking girl scouts if the left tries that shit here. Yet we all know they will if given the chance.
