Yes, I'm sure that shooting a crowd of armed civilians would result in an organized response to the threat, and not a massacre of stupidity.

At least the Police here turn up promptly and kill the attacker within minutes. 6 mins from first 999 call to attackers dead in London bridge attack. Of course it's a lot easier when the police know the assailants only have knives.

That's a problem I have with US Law enforcement and it all centers around this idea that LEO lives are more important than everyone elses. If there is any perceived threat to the LEO, they pretty much have the green light to shoot to kill. If there is an active shooter they will hold up and make a plan to secure LEO lives before they go in. I'm not too sure about what happened in Vegas yet, but the Pulse Night Club is a perfect example. We've given them all the gear to do CQB room clearing, but the LEOs aren't really doing it as far as I can see.

The assumption that others should have a duty to lay their lives down to protect your own life is mistaken. It's a foolish notion.

Yes, men who lay their lives down in sacrifice for the welfare of their countrymen are noble. That's heroic. But it's a mistake to plan our security around the idea that police will do this. It probably depends upon where you live, but I would NOT expect a Chicago cop, for example, to do a damned thing to protect me if it meant risking his own life.
