Know that from breaking news (not braking news). Small errors happen when writing.

Probably would have been simpler to just bomb the tree into splinters... But wouldn't have made as definitive of a statement.

Besides, in truth the North Korean regime has simply turned a blind eye to street vendors and small time capitalism, which basically keeps the country standing somehow.

(Wonder if they know it's capitalism)

I think if there would be any escalation of the crisis (which isn't likely, but possible), likely the tit-for-tat way would happen. All out war would happen only when either side would try to gain strategic surprise and launch an pre-emptive strike... which isn't at all reasonable.

Here's some hypotheticals as how this tit-for-tat would go:

And do notice that this is from 2013. So these things go on and on...

What stops the US is China, not NK...he'd be well off not to piss off China.
That's not how the North Koreans view it, they view America as being soft, their plan is to acquire the capability to strike the CONUS with hydrogen bombs, at which point, America will not risk a war with them, and so will be forced to negotiate an American withdrawal on North Korea's terms.

They also view China as being soft, they view the hydrogen bomb as being a sufficient lever to keep them at bay as well.

The North Korean mindset is that they are the Master Race, the hardest of the hard, and so long as their adversaries would have to pay a nuclear price, nobody will mess with them in the end.

From the North Korean point of view, the only reason the South continues to resist, is because of the Americans, the only reason the Americans are willing to back them up, is because Americans are not in peril, ergo, put America in peril, and Washington will abandon the South, at which point, the North Koreans will win the war, when the South, no longer backed up by the Americans, simply capitulates in the face of North Korean Escalation Dominance.

Depends on the viewpoint.

I would say that the "grey economy" is quite "free market" and "capitalist" in a country which officially follows the Juche ideology.

Hacking their missile launches I think was a mistake. We should not have put our cards on the table like that. Would be better to station ABM destroyers just off the coast to shoot down any missile launches (if the tech works as advertised). Then, if they ever really do try to launch at somebody, then use the hacks to shut down the launches before you toast the entire launch facility with cruise missiles.

The DPRK is Communist in name only, Juche is not even the dominant ideology in North Korea, they're not really Marxist-Leninist, what they really are, is Ultra Right Wing Xeonophobic Ethno Nationalists, more like the Nazis than the Commies, it's a Master Race doctrine, although what the North Koreans call themselves is the "Purest Race".

Why are you posting a picture of a garbage tabloid website?

They don't even link to the source of the article's main claim, but I went ahead and did that legwork for you.
