Lyndon B. Johnson brings electricity to central Texas, 1931-1941:
https://www.bluebonnet.coop/Community/News/articles/2014/THE-POWER-BROKER-Lyndon-B-Johnson
You know what that means?
IT MEANS LOTS OF TEXAS DIDN'T HAVE ELECTRICITY LESS THAN 100 YEARS AGO.
... and yet, nobody saw this is a "failure of government". No one said "OMG, why isn't the government keeping me warm this winter?"
We're talking 80 years ago.
People alive today, were alive in that time.
Not to mention all the settlers in Texas who had no power.
Nor the native Americans who lived there millennia before, and beat the winter with fucking blankets.
But hey, "Rolling blackouts in TX, won't the globalists please save us from this travesty!?!?"
Fuck modern man.

I think you miss the point of her books.Hastur wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 12:35 pmShe's a hack novelist. Her bad guys are so pathetic and weak. No challenge really. I like really tough and competent antagonists.Zlaxer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:22 am

Get a copy while you still can...
Take it with a grain of salt - Rand is hardcore in her beliefs - but she was spot on when it comes to leftists.

Californians have already turned Texas into a failed state.

Re: Total Incompetence
You know, I was thinking, the Texas power fiasco sort of shows wind can be a viable stable of the power grid - many articles blasting windmills freezing as the culprit. This means wind was (for a long time) providing a lot of the baseline. The problem isn’t wind - the problem is no one had the ballz to fire up the coal plants when a problem was encountered. What’s wrong with continuing to add wind as long as there are backup fossil fuel plants in place and people with ballz to turn them on? No one (IMHO) can seriously question the fact that coal plants are “not great” for air quality.
The fallout from this should be better fossil or nuke backups - not crushing wind power. Seriously - it’s amazing wind can provide so much power in the first place.
The other thing we need to do is crank up fusion research - its “always 30’s years away”, but we are really dam close at the moment...

I agree Zlaxer.
Diversified power sources are good.
The beauracracy that goes along with all this is bad.
The level of indoctrination to the system it takes to allow the grid to collapse over following regulations and permissions is frightening.
WTF, no one remember the adage it's easier to get Forgiveness than permission?
You'd have to be insecure in your job, insecure with yourself and afraid of taking chances to let this happen

You find these traits in people that have never truly earned anything.
I don't know how many green out of college engineers I've had to mentor in the field. They are like children. They put on a front, but are afraid to do anything or say anything because deep down they know they all they have is a slip of paper and it didn't prepare them for the real world.

I had this same argument with Smitty; the Boomer engineers who landed a man on the moon and brought him back were right out of Uni. And my generation created computers right out of college. I was on the Engineer Industrial Board at the local Uni and Millennials are who you’re talking about: hopeless namby-pambies; and since then it’s gotten worse. Why do you think the Tech giants want B-1 visa engineers from India?C-Mag wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 12:53 pmYou find these traits in people that have never truly earned anything.
