I keep reading about Lewes. I guess I'll have to add it to the retirement tour, although realistically I'll wind up in New England.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 5:55 pmVisited Dover once on my way to the sandbox. Bleh.
I'd probably shoot myself in the tool shed about three years into retiring there.

You can probably drive from one end of the state (the lower end) to the other end (the upper end) within 20 or so minutes. That isn't a bad deal, IMO and would make day trips so fun. Plus, you can go to Annapolis, MD pretty easily (roughly an hour drive to like the center of the state) too and also Philly, IMO. AND you will still be considered a Northeastern too since Delaware is still part of the Northeast.MilSpecs wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 5:52 pmI didn't know that.Penner wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 5:35 pmI met some people who moved away from NYC because of 9/11 but the banking industry in the East has moved away from NYC for the most part.MilSpecs wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 5:30 pm
I don't know anything about Charlotte or the banking industry, but a lot of people got transferred from the northeast when their companies relocated. It's less common now, but those corporate moves brought management and professionals. Many of the people we knew when we first got married relocated, either for promotions or because their divisions were moved. It's interesting to see the differences now when we compare lifestyles.
Boston is skyrocketing now, though, and I'm imagining that cities like Atlanta went through something similar.

Rural populations are not exactly beacons of enlightenment and learning. You either have a business of your own, or you get the fuck out of there to work for one.
There’s a choice between modern standards of living, or rural location, and most people - especially with kids - will choose the former.

If it makes you feel better, I’d much rather live rural. I just can’t make a living there.PartyOf5 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 21, 2018 6:28 amYou are such an ignorant, condescending POS.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 11:36 pmShe’s not wrong.

Correction: you could make a living in rural America, but you don't want to give up the corporatist career and urban lifestyle.
