Lol I don’t believe Roseanne for a minute that she didn’t know Jarrett was black. There are ways to have reacted that *might* have spoken to some plausible deniablility and she didn’t act that way. And given that she is a known birther and also tweeted that Susan rice had big swinging ape balls I’m convinced she (or her unconscious, if she really was ambien tweeting, I mean it’s kind of a non sequitor for a “joke”) knew EXACTLY what she meant.

TBH I was surprised ABC cancelled Rosanne over that, though - I mean we already knew how crazy she was and the offensive types of things she had a tendency to say. I am not sorry they did it, I was just surprised they decided to take moral action. I mostly liked the reboot, though.

Oh and I don’t read the LA Times, was it a good article? The basic difference here was just honestly immediately apparent to me.

Firing a failing NFL player for offensive speech was an egregious affront against the first amendment.

Firing Rosanne for an offensive ambien-fueled late night tweet is totally cool, fam.

LOL. Liberals, everybody.

I really wouldn't have guessed "black", first.
I mean, I've seen black women:

. . . but Valerie has to be the palest, sharpest-featured, black woman ever to walk the earth, with the possible exception of albinos. But there was that comment about the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes, so clearly Roseanne knew she was black, and clearly any primate-related joke is RACIST*.

*If a black person is involved. The 90% of primate-related comments not involving blacks are cool tho, especially ones pertaining to orangutans.

The other thing.. why does calling somebody an ape necessarily have some racial dimension? Apes are a different species and they have white skin. Is it racist against whites to refer to a racially ambiguous woman as the product of an ape?

Precisely.
Call my kids little moneys all the time when they’re acting hyper. Plus, as the video shows, plenty of ape/gorilla/orangutan/monkey name calling throughout society that has nothing to do with race.

But it’s like a power combo for SJWs- up, up, left, right, left ... black person + primate comment = RACISM

Pfft

It can understand being offended by Sam Bee’s bit on this, but it is in no way anything like the Roseanne comment. Like Nick, I don’t think she should have apologized. It was a shocking, vulgar, and totally accurate (feckless) insult.
No one here is saying it was wrong to fire Roseanne.
It's the double standard that bothers me and many others. ABC suffers all kinds of people who say and perform wildly racist shit.
