Unless you think that incompetent people should be left to their own devices whatever the outcome, then your society better plan to be the caretakers.
p.s. There's also a huge Free Rider problem where Libertarians expect somebody else to take care of dumbasses out of a moral obligation or charity or something?
If people made competent decisions, the economy would crash. They wouldn't spend all that money on brand new cars, go out and eat 5 nights a week, spend tons of money on an iphone or android phone, wouldn't take mortgages they can never hope to pay off. People making competent decisions for themselves would be bad for this country, this country lives off of their idiocy, and advertises directly to them for them to "hey, go spend your money here, or spend your money there!"
I mean shit, look at the lottery. There's a shit ton of people paying extra taxes, willingly.
Not necessarily. Incompentence is when you can't keep all the plates spinning, not what plates you have. If someone wants a lot of stuff, and they can keep it going, so what? Being frugal in all things and keeping your money in your mattress only works for some people. For example, from my pov, I'm frugal, and lots of people think I'm frugal to a fault, but there's another whole group of people who think my collecting fetish is looney. I certainly don't need anymore Matchbox cars or dried toad change purses but WTF, I like them.
When I talk about incompentence, I mean they can't keep their life in order, up to and including staying alive.
