Actually, I've been thinking; what if we have the government food grants concentrate on dense nutrient foods with a really long shelf-life? Big returns, and what externalities-schmexternalities.

Maybe I was a bit hasty.

Right, it's not likely we are going to stop giving away resources to feed people. Question is should all the resources be in highly street tradeable EBT cards or physical goods with the needed nutritional value and less street value.
So now the government will have to set up a database with every food they are going to have, and note any allergies in the household. Then someone needs to sort through that data to figure out which households can't get peanut butter, which can't get any gluten... and several other allergies.

Now mom with gluten allergy and kid with peanut allergy get a box with the wrong stuff. Now they have to go to their local government food distribution center with the unusable food in hopes to exchange it for food they can eat.

What a nightmare. But, the feds will be running it so all will go well.
Who says the feds have to run it? Lots of government services are outsourced to private corporations. I don't like government being into a lot of things, but it's already in it with the Food Stamps. I'm willing to listen if they are trying to attain the goal (feeding the poor) more efficiently. Food stamp fraud and abuse is a huge problem.

Instead of waiting to hear more details, the Trump haters are all "BUT TRUMP IS GOING TO KILL CHILDREN WITH ALLERGIES, DERP DERP DERP".
The allergy excuses are the worst. It is free food, the food you don't want will be bartered anyway. This is going to be beautiful. People are done with the sob stories so go ahead media find them, gather them up, get a bunch of people receiving free shit complain about that free shit. Oh Lord and make them fat. God, they just can't help getting dunked on.

Another small government conservative cheer leading for more inefficient bureaucracy. Spending like drunken sailors when in charge, bitching nonstop about over spending when not in charge.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, who was just the same as the guy before him.

The reality is that you will see a lot of fat single mothers and underdeveloped children.

Honest to God, we might need to feed kids directly.

I think the EBT cards are a mistake. WIC is not quite so bad, since it's limited to dairy and meats.

Ideally, I'd like to see community farms in general (not just for the poor). For single mothers, which is really what we are talking about with respect to food assistance, I would rather see subsidized day care if we subsidize anything. Then the bitch can go work. I don't care if it's more expensive. It's about the incentives.

Gonna have to get Daddy Monsanto to agree, and he owns most of the politicians.
That's another bs excuse. AB InBev is bigger and own more politicians yet micro brewers found a way.

Another angle here is that this sort of looks like an even worse Big Agra subsidy, in the end, since it allows the government to pick and choose the winning food products that get distributed.

Look at that completely jacked up, completely wrong and backwards, food pyramid those asshats put out every few years. Oh, I should eat fucking grain, corn, and rice as my primary food source every day? Okay, thanks, jackasses. I am sure the lobbyists from Big Agra who represent the companies that produce all that refined carb bullshit had nothing to do with that decision.

If you are going to do anything to curb this fucking program, then just cancel and replace it with subsidized day care so the bitches have to go to work again.

This program is literally for single mothers and immigrants who should be deported for needing this stuff in the first place. We need to start there and be honest about it. Trump is going after rent subsidies next. Watch him. Eventually they will catch on and the War on Women shit will restart in earnest.

Local farms, Kath. Go to the farmer's market if you can afford it.

Why do you assume I don't? You think I'm an idiot who gets all my nutrients from canned corn?
