Anyone here know anything about VPNs?

VPNs are used legitimately by thousands and thousands of people everyday. If you use TOR through a VPN, it's just going to look like you're using a VPN and not on the TOR network.

Does it matter if the NSA knows you're on the TOR network? I guess as long as you're not doing anything illegal... But TOR is not a solution. It's incredibly slow and through a VPN, it's even slower. And after all of that, you're placing your trust in the VPN.

Letting your ISP sell your data is ridiculous. Guys, can there be no privacy left? Some people are arguing we should be spied upon in the of corporate freedom, it's insane.
It is insane. The ass pirates that voted for this should be dragged out into the streets and shot dead right then and there. I mean what's next? A requirement that we have to have surveillance cameras in every room of our house and people can just pay to have access to them? Or better yet we quite literally all have to live in glass houses!

It doesn't. Just another tool to finish off what is left of our freedom. Land of the Free my ass!

To be fair, if it passes you'll technically be more free than before. Freedom to either knowingly sell your isp data, choose another isp that won't sell your data if you can/want to, or use a VPN. It isn't mandating that you sell your history. A lot of outrage will be misdirected at trump if he signs it as is looking likely. That rage should really be directed at the ISP's. It's not a violation as much as it is a removal of a statutory protection that people previously relied upon in making their contracts - those contracts will need to be looked at again.

Regardless, even from my libertarian biased perspective, it's pretty low on the list for repeal compared to say corporate tax.

Politically, he's making a huge mistake though. This won't be popular within his base. Spending huge ammounts of political capital on small things that will be spun/speculated very negatively.

Using a VPN just changes who you put your trust in so I don't really think it is a solution. It works for torrenting though if that's what your into. Tor was made by the navy so I assume the gov still has direct access and even if they don't, they have Tor nodes so every time you use the browser I believe there is a small chance they will be able to identify you.

Old fogey judges don't understand what the internet is so we have no hope until they die and are replaced.

The current rules just give people a false sense of privacy though because whether this is signed by Trump or vetoed, we won't have privacy online.

If Trump signs it, he could lose bigly. I think a lot of people are operating on false assumptions of what motivates various voters right now. We have bogus left-right narratives, democrat versus republican, or whatever the fuck else. I am telling you right now, the people who got him there don't give a flying fuck about libertarianism or "free market" woo woo. He will lose huge support. It seems trivial to the libertarians who have for so long trashed the republican party, but I am telling you, this will fucking hurt him. Listening to these people is why the GOP almost died before Trump came along. These people are cancer. Stop listening to them.

The guiding principle is to put the American people first. Not an ideology first. Not ISPs first. The American people. Every time he strays from that, he risks everything.

Right, but if a VPN advertises their services to you as "we won't sell you out" but then proceed to do that, they've violated their contract and caused you reasonably foreseeable damage that you would probably be able to claim.

It's almost the same thing as trusting your ISP not to sell your data under a privacy protection statute, and I tend to trust VPN companies more than ISP companies because the VPN business is tied inherently to well.. the privacy of said VPN service.

Well the NSA proved that to be correct. However this law would make it a hell of a lot easier for your neighbor or whoever to get a hold of you or a family members internet activity. I however do have to  at this because it's like South Park episodes coming to life.

That wasn't happening last year and this legislation is the removal of a rule that went into effect this year. I don't believe that the claim is true.
