Re: Trump takes the fight to ISIS
And stop being so ignorant about what makes a conflict a war of choice. We don't get to choose whether we go to war with ISIS like we did against Saddam. They are making war against us. That you fail to understand that belies your total ignorance of what matters in foreign policy. Argue over how to wage the war, but to argue that we can somehow choose not to go to war against people who have already declared war upon us only illustrates the idiotic and child-like mentality of a priveleged, selfish little liberal man-child.
Don't worry. Unless Haji blows you up here at home while you are waiting for your pumpkin spice frappicino, you won't even have to learn a single marching order. Somebody else will sacrifice for you.

Re: Trump takes the fight to ISIS
Just so we're clear, if a large street gang in say Belgium declares "war" on us, then my tax dollars should help fund an invasion of Northern Europe as well, right?
I didn't ask anyone to sacrifice for me, I don't want them to be ordered to sacrifice for me, yet I'm paying for it anyway. Go fuck yourself, for thinking that I should be grateful to the warlords that just robbed my paycheck, for killing the shit out of some other idiots on the other side of the globe because they can't secure my fucking police state, even when they are able to watch me beat off on my couch in between labor sessions.

So we should just ignore ISIS while they steal work trucks to run down toddlers in the street, attack people with axes, blow up buses, gun down hundreds of people at a time at music concerts, and eventually smuggle into America some of that VX stockpile they stole from Assad. Great plan, genius. People like you is why we ended up in this place.

Have we not endured enough of this appeasement, Chamberlain nonsense to last our civilization a thousand years? When is enough going to be enough?

Most of those things happened on the other side of an ocean. So, unless you're willing to admit that we are fucking World Police as always, your list of crimes is moot.Speaker to Animals wrote:Have we not endured enough of this appeasement, Chamberlain nonsense to last our civilization a thousand years? Nobody is "appeasing" anyone. You're giving them EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT by sending more troops to the ME to look like invaders and stir up the few remaining sane people in that region, and motivate the shit out of idiots around the world that want to die for something.
This is why we are where we are, NOT because we didn't blow up enough hovels and dirt farms.

Re: Trump takes the fight to ISIS
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-midea ... 6I0AU?il=0Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said U.S. forces in Syria were "invaders" and he had yet to see "anything concrete" emerge from U.S. President Donald Trump's vow to prioritize the fight against Islamic State.
Assad has said he saw promise in Trump's statements emphasizing the battle against Islamic State in Syria ....
"We haven't seen anything concrete yet regarding this rhetoric," Assad said ... "We have hopes that this administration in the United States is going to implement what we have heard," he said.
...
This week, the U.S.-led coalition announced that around 400 additional U.S. forces had deployed to Syria to help with the Raqqa campaign and to prevent any clash between Turkey and Washington-allied Syrian militias that Ankara sees as a threat.
Asked about a deployment of U.S. forces near the northern city of Manbij, Assad said: "Any foreign troops coming to Syria without our invitation ... are invaders."
"We don't think this is going to help".

Re: Trump takes the fight to ISIS
How FUBAR the situation is can be seen from the following:
Now logically there ought to be TWO sides fighting the ISIS, The Russia/Syrian regime side and the US side.
But no.
This isn't the case. The Free Syrian Army (anyone remember) is aligned with Turkey where the Syrian Democratic Forces are the US proxies, where the largest component are the Kurds with their People's Protection Units (YPG). The YPG is seen as the Syrian affiliate of the PKK By Turkey, hence an enemy of Turkey. Hence NATO Turkey has a different agenda from the US. As has Iran, Russia, Saudi-Arabia, who all look at being on top in the ME in the long term, not just about defeating ISIS/ISIL.
Hence Turkey and the US have different proxies that likely will fight each other. Hence the US forces act also as peacekeepers between FSA and SDF. Great prospects with that.
All fucked up.
Who is everybody? A primer:
Kurdish YPG fighters. Notice the women:
Free Syrian Army fighters with their flag:
Assad's fighters from the Syrian Army (or militia) with the present Syrian flag:
Hezbollah fighter with the yellow flag of their organization:
Iranian troops presumably in Syria:
ISIS loves black clothes, just like Al Qaeda before it:
Chechens fighting alongside ISIS against Assad:
Turkish forces in Syria:
Russian soldiers sightseeing Syria:
And finally, US Special Forces in Syria:
Obviously an easy thing to get everybody to fight ISIS and work together for peace, right???
Now logically there ought to be TWO sides fighting the ISIS, The Russia/Syrian regime side and the US side.

Re: Trump takes the fight to ISIS
Remember that the US started by assisting the Free Syrian Army. Turkey should be a NATO ally, just as like GCC countries should be allies of the US. But as it didn't do then anything on it's "red lines", I guess the link was severed. The US isn't the leader anymore. Then the US had this brainfart of creating a group that only was to fight ISIS and not Assad. And spent a vast amount of money for one of the worst debacles.C-Mag wrote:Reallyssu wrote:How FUBAR the situation is can be seen from the following:

Now you have a Trump administration, so should there be a review what to do? Or will Trump basically continue with the cluelessness of Obama. I assume that Mattis and McMasters might have good ideas, another thing if Trump will go with them.

Re: Trump takes the fight to ISIS
Yes, we should keep an eye on the situation.
I'm all for allying with Russia to take out ISIS. I think we'd be a lot further down that road if every reporter wasn't screaming about Russia every 5 seconds.
Assisting the Free Syrian Army was a complete mess. We know that we helped supply and fund ISIS. We've had 6 years of bad policy on Syria. I'm not sure what Trumps strategy on ISIS is now or how it will develop.
As I said early on McMaster and Mattis are right when they describe the situation like jumping into the middle of a 5 sided argument.
