He did run partially on his ability to 'hire the best people.' It might be a bitter pill to swallow for people who (justifiably) want a real shake up, but people with a little experience might be the best people for a job.

It's two sperate issues, it's not actually the President's job to hire every single member of his staff, and no President does that, Trump's job is to hire Cabinet Secretaries, Supreme Court Justices, Chairmans of the Joint Chiefs, etcertera. The President cannot become bogged down in minutae, drowned in the details of trying to run the WH, and Trump is simply having his TFW moment on that, the smart thing to do here, is to just let the GOP staff the place up, and don't worry too much about it, there's no need to white knuckle it, they're not going to try to take their own President down, they will rally around him, he simply has to let them in and turn them loose.

But yeah, guys like Bannon, guy's like Flynn, loose cannons like that, they gotta go, that will be the price.

It probably should be separate issues, but I think Trump backed himself into a corner. He probably doesn't trust anybody else to hire people who will reliably work for his goals and his biggest promise was to oust the establishment. And, a bit like a cult leader, he sets goals that can't really be accomplished, so only the absolutely faithful will even try, but there are only so many of those. It is a brilliant move for vetting the people around you for loyalty, but not great if you want results.

I don't think its that so much as the GOP crew has just been holding back, not providing their Executive with the same kind of support they normally would, because he is the Outsider, and the only leverage they have, is to withold full support, until he is forced to come to them, and that moment seems to be fast approaching, if it has not just arrived with chucking Flynn under the bus without putting up any fight at all.

It's like Flynn is the signal flare; "OK, fine, come in and run this, I wasn't all that attached to this Outsider shit anyways, I just said that to get elected"

Like when you get an important job, and then your realize you can't hang out with your college room mates anymore because they are always huffing and giving you bad advice.

And the job is so complex, that it actually requires an entire college's worth of experienced staff to make everything run smoothly, and if that staff goes on strike, in order to gain leverage, things will grind to a halt in relatively short order.

The problem here is staff; he doesn't have any, because they've been staying away, he can't even get experienced people to sign on, because they are working to rule, in refusing to work for people like Flynn and Bannon.

If he throws all those Outsider people under the bus, I think things will suddenly open up, and presto, the Staff in a Box shall appear.

Maybe, but I sort if get the idea that the alt-right's enthusiasm for Trump is pretty contingent, and I could see them not bothering to vote if they feel betrayed... or hell, even register a protest vote against him for said betrayal. Where is the fun in giving the status quo the finger in support of the status quo?
