Documents prove two Nigerian brothers who work as extras on the highly rated Fox drama bought the rope which was found around Smollett’s neck at Crafty Beaver Hardware Store in Chicago.

The brothers made the purchase on the weekend of January 25.

They also bought two red plain hats that they wore during the alleged attack, according to sources close to the investigation.

'We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation,' Chicago Police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

A source close to the investigation confirms to CBS News the brothers told detectives Smollett paid them to participate in the alleged attack on January 29 and that they purchased the rope — which was found around Smollett's neck — at a nearby hardware store. The source said detectives have evidence to corroborate the sale, something the men's attorney alluded to Friday night.

Me? I am probably the person most supportive of the police and law and order here.
I supported them when they arrested Yaxley Lennon for contempt of court.
I supported them when they prosecuted Count Dankula for his acts of gross offence to Holocaust victims.
I supported them when they took only 8 minutes to turn up and kill the terrorists at Borough Market after the London Bridge attack.

I'm a lot less inclined to trust American police due to their trigger happy nature and abject cowardice in several mass shooting cases but I trust them to get to the bottom of the Smollett case. If they conclude it was a hoax attack I will accept it as the truth because it is they who have possession of all the available evidence. Until they tell us what they know all else is merely media speculation.
