Re: Civil War Doomsday Clock
Fully 10% of the population are so stupid the military is not allowed to induct them: that's 33 million people. Then there are the retired: that's 40 million people. And kids: that's 75 million people. Disability: 14 million. That's about half the population that must be supported by the other half. Now consider that 70% of those that do work have no savings and can barely get by, which leaves 50 million people to support the leisurely lifestyle of over 150 million people, 1 person must support 4.

Re: Civil War Doomsday Clock
Is there actually an example of land redistribution reform to give poor people a small farm that has worked? It's been a popular populist theme ever since the Gracchi brothers but has it ever worked? I know the Tang dynasty for a long time had laws against large farms and gave every non-urban male a farm for as long as they could work it. That system eventually broke down.
It's also been tried in many African and Latin American countries. It usually leads to lower production and eventually, the small farms are bought up by big landowners again.

Land resitribution is very bad policy.
The United States has a fuck ton of undeveloped public land. We don't need to steal land in order to make this work.
I am not down with intrinsic evil as a national policy. Consider what Israelis were able to do in converting desert into fertile land and communities that the Palestinians suddenly claimed was their ancient land even though nobody lived in those places longterm before the Jews irrigated it and developed it. We can do the same thing here.

Taking public land and giving it to the poor is also land redistribution. It's exactly what the Gracchi did. It all ended up being bought up by the big landowners in the end increasing the unequal distribution of land even more.

Absolute private property to the exclusion of "public" or "publicly distributed" property is the solution. The alternative has a perfect track record of utter failure.Hastur wrote: ↑Tue Jul 31, 2018 7:24 amIs there actually an example of land redistribution reform to give poor people a small farm that has worked? It's not redistribution. It was never distributed to begin with. It's more like distribution of land, not redistribution. Nobody is getting land stolen from them.
Our nation has gone through periods of homestead acts repeatedly for two centuries. This literally is how we fix these kinds of issues.
Many of those wealthy farmers and ranchers out west are descendants of people who bought their initial land through a homestead act. I am talking about that, not some leftist/gracchi scheme of stealing land from successful people to hand out to degenerates. Homestead acts don't have to be free land either. That shit comes with costs and requirements.
