Nuke, the point is, losing the steel contract is something that would affect the steel industry a little over the course of maybe a year. The ongoing costs associated with the risk of an oil pipeline that cuts straight across our continent are enormous, and yet we receive nothing in return. Further, we will be losing the revenue we rightly deserve from such a pipeline, which is an opportunity cost that spans many decades.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
Allow me to explain if you will.
1) Pic related are just some of the products that come from crude. Tar sand crude has even more (mostly harmful chemicals) that require even more processing. Tar sand oil is useless so that's why they ship it to our refineries and/or theirs which are usually located near a port. Why a port? Because from there it's easily sold all over the world and they are connected to rail ways for shipping all over the continent.
2) the pipeline benefits Canada by lowering transportation costs substantially. We benefit as well from cheaper tar sands, which is quite expensive to process. Requires hundred of new units per refinery.
3) charge a tarif on top if you want I don't really care, but like Trump promised the pipeline has to be made with US Steel. At least on our side of the border.

The oil in that pipeline is not destined for the United States, nuke.

We aren't shipping tar sands over seas you retard. It's worthless. We ship finished product.

It would transport synthetic crude to be refined for delivery on futures contract.
At best, you will get some business through refining, which is hardly worth the costs and risks, as well as the opportunity loss of not charging them to transport their oil here in the first place.
Canada could just as well build their own refineries, and ship the oil across their own country.

Ok? So we drill it sell it to them or they drill it sell it to us. That's kind of how things work in the world of oil. Refining is a huge, huge business with thousands of ancillary contracting businesses dependent on the process.
No Indian or Russian pipe on our soil though. So that's my only hang up with it really. If you don't like how dangerous it is you better pray we don't use steel from foreign nationals that have a reputation for fudging their test reports and certifications.
Also, wtf is synthetic crude?
Edit: just looked that up. That's what all the H2S processing units we installed in Houston do. Big money and lots of American made parts/labor. I don't see the issue.

It's not so big as to offset the risks and opportunity cost.

That oil is getting, drilled, transported and refined when crude prices go back up to $80 a barrel one way or the other.
You're only hang up is using a pipe and when I point out that you want to use actual American pipe or at least not shitty Indian pipe you're like, "meh, but that's not the issue." The fuck outta here.

Foreign nations should not make use of American resources without compensating the American people. Period. Full stop.
That's what MAGA means. We put the American people first. We don't put Canada first. We don't put a few oil refining companies first. The American people.
This does not put the American people first. At all.

The badly implemented immigration EO, healthcare bill, xl pipeline, Military buildup in the middle east, abnormally large collateral civilian deaths from bombings, repealing privacy laws, and now this
