Re: Europe, Boring Until it's Not
This is the problem with sophistry (which is a better word for what we call the "left" than anything else, really).
They don't give a shit about the actual meanings of words, or of honest argument, or even the objective truth. They care only about the power they perceive from certain words and arguments. They recognized the power that used to come from accusing somebody of being a racist, and they coveted it. So they used everywhere. They created new words and used them substitutively in the same context one would use the word racism like some fucking lexical cargo cult.
Monty doesn't give a shit about the fact that inventing a word like "Islamaphobic" and using it like one would use racism is fucking asinine and it empowers an ideology to commit all sorts of abuses lest people be labeled the dreaded title "Islamaphobe". He just wants the power.
And the total shit show you see in Orwellian England is what happens when sophists are allowed to run amok.
If we are really going to stick with this silly "left-right" verbiage, then the best differentiation between left and right has nothing to do with economics or law or philosophy. The right are people who care about the truth, and the left are people who care about power. The truth of what I am saying here is exhibited in our use of language. You can see it everyday for yourselves.

Re: Europe, Boring Until it's Not
Here's the sad truth, though:
Sophistry really is a kind of cargo cult in that the power they perceive from using certain combinations of words was initially derived from argument. People on the right were the ones who argued against slavery, for equality before the law, civil rights, etc. The reason the accusation of racism was so powerful in the first place was because of the arguments against institutionalized racism were so strong.
But Sophists can only distort and corrupt language. They don't really care about the truth of an argument, only the effect. Once they seize upon some argument from the right, they use it like some magical incantation they repeat ad infinitum until that shit is played out like a two dollar whore and has no appeal to anybody.
The left can't meme because the left doesn't know the truth.
Think about it.

“The right argues against slavery, and inequality”
And then accuses the other side of sophistry.

We’ve been over this before. The Republican Party was not always “Right”.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 4:05 pmSlavery was abolished by the republican party. Yes, we have been over that, and the left put the story of that the parties changed because the Democrats were losing badly after it was proven that the Democrats were always the party of failing to be on the right side of history.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 4:06 pmWe’ve been over this before. Oh. So it was the republicans who were pro-labor unions and passed the New Deal??
