How many people in this country you think understands that the Civil War was about States rights and not about slavery alone? Yes, because there would be slavery in America or there would not. The 'would not' won.

How could you possibly expect otherwise? What grade school history course has EVER taught the 'states rights' angle? It's considered too complex for fragile young minds.SilverEagle wrote:How many people in this country you think understands that the Civil War was about States rights and not about slavery alone? Was the Civil War a "banker plot" to get rid of agricultural wealth?
Alternate History question... How long would slavery of lasted until machinery/tech. did it in even without a war?

Re: Unite the Right
You're right. I was never taught that in school. I was only taught that it was about slavery. It wasn't until I was out of school and used the stuff between my ears to read and figure it out for myself. That being said I'm teaching my kids the truth of things like the American Civil War.GrumpyCatFace wrote:How could you possibly expect otherwise? Super quick and inartfully worded thoughts:Kazmyr wrote:The Confederate monuments that still exist in the US
Now, what ever could CNN be up to? Surely, they can't be advocating for people go find the rest of these and remove them...The deadly rally in Charlottesville started when a group of white nationalists descended on the city to protest its decision to remove Confederate relics from public spaces, such as a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee.
There are about 1,500 Confederate memorials and symbols in public spaces across the US, the Southern Poverty Law center estimates.
Get fucked, CNN.
FDR interned the Japanese, but he will get a pass
Jefferson owned 600 slaves, so he should be erased from history.
Actually, didn't almost every civilization have slaves? Well then, we have a lot of scrubbing to do. The Red Guard's got nothing on what needs to be done.
And maybe we should start with the this 131 foot statute of the Khan, that filthy genocidal rapist

How we got here:
Race Race Race Race Race
The unbearable whiteness of X
White people need to stop X
Beyonce in a Sari is cultural appropriation and Katy Perry in a komodo is too et al
SCOTUS sez different qualifications for different races for university
Disparate impact even though Constitutional text expressly forbids (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disparate_impact)
While people can't be racist
Dear white people
and so on
So you might ask who cares, but so many idiots are being conditioned to think about everything on racial terms. I blame the media and the marxist teachers/admins at university, but clearly the legal system is complicit as well, there is probably plenty of blame to go around.
My racial group versus your racial group
Not individuals
So when a bunch of horrible people come out as nazis or white nationalists or whatever the proper term is, WELL WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU EXPECT? All we do is tell them that race is the primary lens through which to see the world.

Anifa scum and nazi / white nationalists are what, .01% of the population? Now it will be only media and political story forever. 99.99% of the population has more sense to attend silly gang posturing protests.

The nazi / white nationalist /whatever groups are the worst thing to happen to the broad political right, the left was melting down so bad they would never win an election again, and now they get a unifying bogeyman.
never interrupt your opponent when he is making a mistake - some probably racist or violent Asian guy, I don't remember his name, we had to burn all the old books and tear down the monuments.

Interesting point.GloryofGreece wrote:Alternate History question... How long would slavery of lasted until machinery/tech. did it in even without a war?
I guess it could have slowed tech progress because not as much incentive, but that doesn't strike me as convincing
what do you think?

Re: Unite the Right
The only way I can see this civic nationalism experiment actually recovering and continuing is with some kind of amendment that separates race and ethnicity from government in the same way that the first amendment separates religion and government. Sans that, the republic is already fucking toast, guys. The left killed it.

Don't be disingenuous. It was about the states' rights to own slaves.SilverEagle wrote:

Your quote was Napoleon, btw.
But he's white, so it's definitely verboten to reference him. Imperialist little shit. /s

I'm not. It was about State's rights regardless of the context.MilSpecs wrote:Don't be disingenuous. It was about the states' rights to own slaves.SilverEagle wrote:
