I mentioned West side Story. And yes I was mentioning the pain and the unoringinality. As usual some liberal bird attacked me for it.Hastur wrote:It is possible to re envision Shakespeare and get an interesting adaptation. Someone already mentioned West Side Story which is a good example. The Lion King is basically Hamlet. 10 things I hate about you was based on The Taming of the Shrew.
Ian McKellen was born for this role.
Kurosawa's Ran is King Lear.
I liked Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing.
Most attempts are just painful to behold. Redoing Shakespeare in a new way is so unoriginal and easy. Many try but only a few can pull it off. I prefer Shakespeare as close to the original as possible. Kenneth Branagh's movies stand out the most.

That Richard III trailer looks very interesting. As far as adaption goes, Ran is probaby the best one. I'm not well versed on Shakespeare, but when its done right it makes for a damn fine play.
Hastur:
check out this Macbeth trailer. It stays pretty true to the original play. Fassbender Kills it.

I haven't see the Much Ado About Nothing, but the other three are pretty good. Ian McKellen's was the most enjoyable for me, although RAN was probably the best. It was like being gut punched over, and over, which make it hard to watch.Hastur wrote:It is possible to re envision Shakespeare and get an interesting adaptation. Great, let's all celebrate that abortion, you do every other one.

I try, though I often fail, not to do the same stupid as my "side" even if I usually agree with them. Whoever them is at the time.

We are talking about two bastions of the Republican Party. Win, lose, whatever.
