I see pretty distinct differences between liberals and libertarians, but what's the point of arguing with people when anyone can make their own home-brewed definitions and refuse to budge? Even actual libertarians have a core identity crisis what with the big 'L' and little 'l' split. A lot of them are just disorganized, selfish, boneheads while others are Republicans that want to smoke weed and frequent hookers.The serious libertarians, who actually put thought into their positions, are pretty hard to come by.

Anyway, since this is a thread on liberals I thought I'd post a WaPo headling that cracked me up today. Sometimes unintentional irony just tickles me. Here it is:

I see pretty distinct differences between liberals and libertarians, but what's the point of arguing with people when anyone can make their own home-brewed definitions and refuse to budge? I saw that too this AM, it's so obvious it actually makes your laugh now and then.

I looked at the story and I thought it was going to say, MCCAIN just about dead and were pulling shenanigans to take his seat through administrative means.

It's the bogus way people frame it that makes these differences seem like something substantive when really they are hardly the most important issues. Libertarians obsess over capitalism, markets, and economics. So do progressives. They have different economic opinions, but economics is hardly a substantive issue compared to the moral and demographic destiny of a nation. They all agree on the shit that matters most, and they agree to the destruction of everything that made the West what it is.

England, for instance, has been through arguably three (if not more) economic systems. Throughout all that time, the character of England was not drastically altered. Even after replacing the Aristocracy with Normans, the basic make-up of Britons never changed. The moral foundation never changed.

Now England is starving a baby to death rather than let the parents take him to a different hospital because they are afraid the other hospital will make their pozzed NHS system look bad. They have entire cities that are majority foreigner now.

As important as these economic canards may be to you (and I would suggest you step back and look at it objectively to see how stupid it is to obsess over those issues as if they are the defining political characteristic of a man), they don't really matter in the long run. The long run is about who Americans will be in the future and what they stand for. There was a line of continuity from one generation to the next, carrying the torch as it were, until about the 1960s.

Shit is drastically out of kilter right now precisely because of liberalism -- and libertarians are HUGE liberals!

I won't even get into the fact that all political ideologies have economic views that differ, nor the enormous canard of everything you don't like being the destruction of the West. Way too much to unpack - and I think it's pretty obvious to everyone else, making the effort unnecessary.
