I DM'd for 5e for a bit. It's not a bad system at all. I still prefer 2e though.

I'd prefer the new classes and character development on top the 2nd edition rule set.

The Spell Shield could block it, but only depending on your level and the caster of the MM. Then it would be Damage Absorption vs Damage Dealing.

My personal is 3.5.1 (they fixed a lot in 5.1 that they broke in 5...) I still have my characters from then, today they would be considered OP so I pulled them out whenever the DM is being a dick.
