Dr. Youth!
"APOLOGIZE, CATHOLICS - FOR TRYING TO SAVE THOSE DAMNED HEATHEN SOULS FROM HELLFIRE. I MEAN, OUR CANADIAN GOVERNMENT MARCHED THEM AT PROVERBIAL GUNPOINT TO YOUR DOORS PRECISELY SO YOU COULD CARRY OUT YOUR RELIGIOUS MISSION ON EARTH, BUT YOU STILL OWE THEM AN APOLOGY!"
Right on, man.

Good intentions does not make good outcomes.
How many evils have been committed with good intentions.
Damn, that's one long list.

Re: Justin Trudeau asks Pope for apology
Is that to me? Are you under the impression that I'm saying the Pope has to apologize? No. If he doesn't want to, he's not a "bad man" for not doing so. I am not counter-arguing that point, DB. I'm counter-arguing the point that the NA's in question don't have a legitimate grievance. The issue isn't between me, the Pope and those natives. From my perspective, the apology he already wrote about native american schools, should cover it.DBTrek wrote:So the Pope should apologize for Canadians sending Native Americans to Catholic run Canadian Schools -Why?
The Pope who approved the Catholic Schools at the time, taking in native american kids, demanding they can't speak their own language, practise their own customs or worship their own religion "fucked up", if violating what we'd consider basic human rights can be considered "fucking up". I am not saying they "fucked up" though. I say they participated in something immoral at the time. Something the Canadian state, as you rightly point out, orchestrated. Some of those kids are still alive, in Canada, after the Canadian government sent them to those schools.
So where did the Pope f*ck up?
In case you forgot: The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church, the ultimate boss of all Catholic clergy and responsible for what his Church does the same way any other national leader is responsible for his state. As for what he owes Canada? Not a goddamn thing, imo. Apologies aren't owed . Remember back when I apologized to you once, in forum and PM? I didn't "owe" that to you then, either.Tell me what the Pope owes them.
Because clearly the Pope is the leader of Canada.

Well, StarWars-Socks apologized, so it's covered.
I mean . . . he apologized as much as any socialist would - meaning he blamed, cajoled, spread around responsibility, finger-pointed, and tried to peacock his way to some kind of moral high ground to distract from the fact that he was the party engaging in the wrongdoing . . . but that's a socialist apology, no?

Do you answer any questions, or do you just hop from one false claim to another in hopes that eventually you'll outrun the truth?
From the 19th century until the 1970s, more than 150,000 aboriginal children were forced to attend Christian schools to rid them of their native cultures and integrate them into Canadian society.
Children inducted into residential schools were forbidden from speaking their native languages and subjected to routine physical abuse, inadequate nutrition and neglect. Sexual abuse was common, according to the survivors who testified at commission hearings throughout the country.

But. What. Culture. Died?
We can all read the wiki-entry on Indian Schools.
What culture died, Bjorn?
If the answer is *none* . . . then Canada looks even dumber than it did at the beginning of this thread.
"We demand you apologize to the people that we forced into your institutions because you failed to assimilate them. Er, I mean you should apologize for trying to assimilate them! Even though that's why we forced them into your schools. And . . .uh . . . somehow . .. . uh . . . this is all your fault so tell the people we sent to you for reeducation that you're sorry!"
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
That's convoluted, even for a people surrounded by ice and the fragrance of moose poop 7/8ths of the year.

The culture practised by the individuals who went to those schools, DB. Never said the entire culture got annihilated. The Jews of Germany weren't annihilated, either, but that don't mean that the attempt to do so wasn't, you know... wrong.DBTrek wrote:But. What. Culture. Died?

And I'll remind you that Trudeau looking dumb isn't something I've disputed in this thread at any point. The legitimate grievance of one party, does not translate into legitimacy for a third party to make demands on a second party, on behalf of the first party.
