The goobers equate; loss of a politically connected firm with the loss of the underlying activity which creates the jobs; not the case.
What happens when firms in other countries that are politically connected use their influence in a country that does not protect its industries from market forces? It seems like your free trade scenario would only work if every country and firm plays by the same rules. Don't know, not an economist, just spitballing here.
Their firms become increasingly less competitive generating increasingly less jobs, until eventually they collapse when the dam breaks and the market forces wash over them inevitably in a torrent of creative destruction.

I welcome American firms, I love it if they are subsidized too; direct wealth transfer straight from you to me.
Is there a historical example of this happening?

It's happening all day everyday, this is where your jobs are disappearing too; giant uncompetitive leviathans preventing competition and dynamism in the economy via poltical connections to prop them up.

Bigger and bigger leviathans all the time, creating fewer and fewer jobs as they go, because Vampire Squids don't have to compete, don't have to compete, don't have to spend, no spending, no jobs, they just sit on the money.

But it wouldn't just be the Leviathans losing out with free trade. Smaller businesses can't compete with cheaper overseas labor costs either. In fact, they are in less of a position to do so than the bigger firms, which are happy to send the jobs overseas anyway with these agreements. Saves them money in labor.

No, small business is not being crushed by foreign devils, it's your own Leviathans which crush their domestic competitors, in the name of protecting you from overseas competitition, when in fact that competition is good for you, direct wealth transfer to you from the foreign devils, you take that transfer and start your own business, you hire three guys to work for you, and presto; job growth... until that is, one of your own Leviathan's comes along and gets their government cronies to drive you out of business by intervening on their behalf through overtaxation, overregulation, bureaucratic torpedoing, etc.

This is the protectionism scam, it doesn't fuck me, it fucks you, I get subsidized cheaper American products, subsidized by you, I take that money and hire some Canadian goober to work for me, the only Canadian who is pissed off about that, is the CEO of the entrenched interest Canadian leviathan who would like to step on me for trying to compete with them by exploiting the wealth transfer which you gave me.

I was supposed to pay too much in being forced to buy from them, the last thing they want is me taking money from you so that I not only don't buy from them, but actually start selling in their prison yard without the permission of their government cronies. Cue the government cronies to come after me with some bereaucratic torpedo, "didn't have the licence to sell in this prison yard, oh and you didn't fill out the correct forms, too bad so sad, who do you think you are? Get back in your place, small business upstart!"

SAD
Trump is not my guy, I disavowed him in the campaign when he went all Nanny Police State, I'm just not hysterically opposed to him like the Libcucks are, if this is the guy that the goobers and hayseeds of Dumbassville USA have chosen, so be it, I'm going to give him a chance, at the end of four years, I'll render judgement.

This was essentially their ask; "just give him a chance, see what he can do, Pascals Wager". Done and done.
I was saying the guy with the pretty pink socks was your guy.

I do appreciate your allowing us to work somethings out among ourselves. Trump is only the beginning of a reformation in this country to become less federalized.

Once Liberals realize they are gonna lose for the next 20-30 years due to Judicial appointments they will ask for increased state's rights and I believe the Republican base will be open to compromise.

It's either that or ND's day of the rope.

Watching California during the next recession will be a key indicator of what happens next.
