A clenched fist is an appropriate symbol for any state. Same could go for a combat boot stepping on a human face.

Replace the union jack with a fist holding a rainbow dildo and a muslim sword; it at least would be more honest that way.

Why only on ships?

It's not the symbol of the fist itself - its the style it's drawn....same as USSR.
