Where does your garbage go? I would guess a local landfill if you don't burn it. Again, it's an artifact of density. And you're correct they're choosing the cheapest rather than most environmental solution. I'll bet they have a ton of those urban lawsuits I mentioned, that it's cheaper to fight than comply with. Cities create great opportunities to deal with the concentrated effluent of humankind, but it needs to be cheaper to do it than polluting.

You mentioned treehuggers upthread. Don't you think it would be great to make it more expensive to cut a living tree than to recycle the billions of tons of paper we create? The only reason we were shipping it to China was we created a business environment where it's super cheap to cut timber and externalize the costs to the natural environment. It's a resource, we'd be landfilling scrap steel if mining and refining were cheaper than re-smelting. Cutting an old growth forest because it's a few cents cheaper than recycling paper is sinful. And if it raises the cost of paper, good. We use too much, I want it to cost a ton to send me bullshit in the mail.

I produce very little trash compared to most modern households. My guess is the average household has the garbage truck come once a week and has 2-4 trash cans full. The bulk of it unsorted. I go to the dump once a month. I sort metal, aluminum, cardboard and used oil for recycling. Food waste goes to compost pile. Try to stay away from plastics, even in purchasing. I probably have about 2 white tall waste bags a month that goes into the landfill.

China is a good example. Globalism was partly started to give Big business a route to cheaper operating costs. It would have been more responsible to keep all that mining, logging and industrial production in the US where we have controls on it. Now the UN and most of my government wants me to pay for Climate change bullshit when they organized and promoted greater environmental damage, to hell with them.

Seriously, how would a Canada style carbon tax, that rebates to most people what they spend extra, affect you? Unless you simply don't believe we have a climate problem, in which case there's no point discussing it.

You should move to Brooklyn NY. I didn't realize how much of a hillbilly I was until I visited there. They have movie theaters and even restaurants there as well as parks. In Florida, we don't have places where you can watch movies or eat dinner. Its crazy. They even have these stores that sell iphones which is not something I would expect an ignorant redneck like you to understand how to use. Talk about a life-changing event!



They even have these young people in Williamsburg who paint pictures and make youtube videos. I was absolutely floored. These are some sharp people dude and maybe you should try emulating their wise "lived experience."
