Yes, because having Nerd in the hospital for x number of days/weeks is preferable to him being at home with me. WTF? I'd rather spend time alone with Nerd than any other person on earth. You're dead wrong. Now, if that kid would come after me, Nerd would go into a flying rage. He doesn't need to prove his "manliness" to me, though. He proves it other ways, like contributing to our lives, being a good father, etc.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 1:57 pmWhat you say you'd want is not what you really think you'd want, and what you think you'd want is not really what you want subconsciously.

@sta
Eh, there are exceptions to any rule. I’m not sure your point holds true for a woman that nicknamed her husband “nerd”

The thing is, we do not fight in that situation to prove anything to you. We fight in that situation because evolution made us this way. Is it smart to de-escalate? You better believe it, sister. But in that situation the woman will find "reasons" to dump the guy for doing the smart thing. She probably will not even be aware of what drives her to it. The shit she unloads on him will not be the reason she tells herself, and the reason she tells herself will have nothing to do with the real reason. And she will be quite oblivious to it.Kath wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 2:03 pmYes, because having Nerd in the hospital for x number of days/weeks is preferable to him being at home with me. WTF? I am not trying to be mean when I say most women lack self-awareness. They really do.

Both sexes run on an evolutionary program. You can circumvent that due to your intellect, but it takes awareness of the program in some cases to even recognize it.
Maybe we shouldn't circumvent it either. I don't really know. But if women are not going to transend this, then we need to go back to the traditional social order.
The point of that skit was that he circumvented it, but she did not, and she despised him for it.

Sure, but there are certainly women that circumvent that as well. Kath is saying that she does, perhaps she does. Most men and women do not.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 2:13 pmBoth sexes run on an evolutionary program. I think it’s hilarious, I miss that show.
What has been said here about Louie instantly becoming unattractive to her is true, I think. But I don’t think him getting into a fight and being beaten up would make him appear much better to her. If he could de-escalate using words while maintaining control then he’d come off as powerful.
Probably uncool to admit that irl I’d have tried to avoid the fight too, probably just by signaling that they can have the victory, that I don’t care.

Re: Washington Post: Why Can't We Hate Men?
The point of the skit was that by not standing up to the bully, he allowed himself to be publicly humiliated.
Anyone with a spine could have backed that kid off around 1:30, but he didn’t. He waffled, and showed extreme weakness.
IF the encounter is allowed to go on to 2:00, he should have stood up and told the kid to take his best shot.
Since he didn’t, the abuse goes on. He’s shown to be weak and ineffective as a protector, and the woman loses all respect for him.
The proper response is to de-escalate from strength, not cowering. The fist fight isn’t going to happen, no matter what he does, unless he wants it to. A man should be able to control that engagement.

It’s also worth mentioning that the woman feels no threat, thanks to the societal norms that we live in. Without those norms, she would be fully vulnerable to rape and assault without Louie there to protect her.
That’s why modern women disregard the role of men. They feel much safer than they really are, like children playing in traffic.
