The result of blocking people from seeking the information they want to know to make their decision is that they then discriminate widely against large groups. The result of those laws makes the problem worse.Viktorthepirate wrote:Not quite as simple as that.Okeefenokee wrote:The result of blocking a company from finding out if you are worth their time before they spend time on you is they won't bother with you at all.jediuser598 wrote:
I can see it for this reason, they're already partially doing it. What does, whether or not I want to take up loans, have to do with car insurance? What does it have to do with getting an apartment for rent? What does it have to do with jobs I might seek after? Yet all of these things are affected by my credit score.
It's logically the next step, because I bet you with all of the data they have on us, they can predict whether or not hanging out with a certain person causes you to be less profitable for <insert business>. How would a social credit score even be illegal? If they're private entities, why not penalize you for associating with certain people or visiting certain websites?
This has been tried before, and the lessons weren't paid attention to. Sowell just released another book on it.
Talk about engineering, you're trying to tell other people how they can and can't pick customers, employees, tenants, etc.
It's illegal to ask certain things when renting or employing for a reason. Because if you follow certain data sets when making decisions you can shut out people from participating in the system to the detriment of all. What happens when we start giving insurance rates based on race for example.
If businesses start requiring that they be able to check your social media before they do something with you, but you don't have social media or rarely use it, you will be shut out. That isn't good for anyone.

I get what you're saying but I disagree.
Not really much else to add though, we are hitting bed rock beliefs here.

You can disagree all you like, but it's a fact.
The result of policies such as barring employers from conducting background checks on potential employees is that they then discriminate widely against entire segments of society. It's not conjecture, or opinion. It's fact.

Re: 21st Century Totalitarianism Model
we absolutely cannot allow this to happen to the USChinese Journalist Banned From Flying, Buying Property Under New 'Social Credit Score' System
http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2018/04/24/ ... ustworthy/
When Liu Hu recently tried to book a flight, he was told he was banned from flying because he was on the list of untrustworthy people. Liu is a journalist who was ordered by a court to apologize for a series of tweets he wrote and was then told his apology was insincere.
“I can’t buy property. My child can’t go to a private school,” he said. “You feel you’re being controlled by the list all the time.”
And the list is now getting longer as every Chinese citizen is being assigned a social credit score — a fluctuating rating based on a range of behaviors. It’s believed that community service and buying Chinese-made products can raise your score. Fraud, tax evasion and smoking in non-smoking areas can drop it.
...
The fear, of course, it that the government may use this social credit scoring system to punish people that it deems not sufficiently loyal to the communist party, Tracy reported. And trying to clear your name or fight your score is nearly impossible, because there’s no due process.

It's already happened, but because it is run by corporations, most people are fine with it.

It's already happened, but because it is run by corporations, most people are fine with it.
WOW, those ChiComs are efficient................... that didn't take long at all.
I'm going on the record now, Chinese Civil War within a generation.

This piece of shit company is only making public what private information brokers already have been doing for a long time:

There already are such things in America. They are run by private companies who then sell the data to the government as a "public source intelligence".
This actually reminds me of the thread where liberals of various stripes are nonplussed that I might disagree with the "Enlightenment".

Just wait until the cashless society, and if your "social score" isn't good enough you won't be allowed a bank account, much less credit cards, loans, etc. If you're lucky they might give you an EBT card for food.C-Mag wrote:Speaker to Animals wrote:pineapplemike wrote:

What are you going to wage war against the state with, sticks and stones vs AKs and tanks?

There is no resisting by arms. Much to my chagrin, because it’s looking like it may be needed.
