Bottom line, it's not about this season, Toews is under contract for five more years, there's a very limited window here to get a big return for him, wait another year or two and he's not going to be worth near as much, but the contract will still have three to four years left on it, and with the Seabrook contract, one of those contracts needs to go, and Seabrook they are stuck with, so the Toews contract, salary retained, is the only one they could move to get out of cap jail for the next six years.
