Re: Tax Plan For Aristocracy
Economic mobility is desirable, getting rid of classes altogether, impossible, and even if it wasn't, it's certainly undesirable to have everyone equally poor. If class is based on merit, I have no issue with different classes existing, the aristocracy isn't a problem if class is based on merit, when that isn't the case, then people begin to have issues with the aristocracy. Noblesse Oblige.
Inheritance tax hikes do not result in a system that allows for greater economic mobility for the lower classes, it simply lowers the bar of the rich so that gap between them and the lower classes is reduced, but a better plan is to raise the bar of the lower and middle classes, instead of lowering the bar of the upper class to close that gap.
The rich don't have to lose so that everyone else can win, economics is not a zero sum game, most socialists don't get that, everything is about oppressor vs. oppressed in a zero-sum power struggle to them, but that isn't not how one should build an economy, it's extremely economically inefficient to do so, pro tip.

Someone's math if waaaaaay off. $389,436./ $45,567 is no where near "25.3 times"--they've conflated wealth, income and earnings very quickly in this article--it almost seems like they might be deliberately misleading their intended audience.Kath wrote:It's interesting how the people with the most wealth earn the most money, eh?Alexander PhiAlipson wrote:If we could learn the difference between wealth and income, many of the the arguments here would disappear. v:

So, explain your tax plan, genius. The poorest person in the country should pony up exactly as much as the wealthiest?StCapps wrote:Robin Hood Economics, not the way to run an efficient economy.

My point is that aristocracies cause liberty to devolve into socialism. The aristocrats don't really care, they still maintain their liberty, it's everybody else that loses theirs. Aristocracies are the ultimate danger to liberty because they cause the populace to lose faith and surrender their ever-decreasing liberty for the relative freedom of socialism.

So your claim is that the wealthiest do NOT earn much more than the poorest? Also, I count investment income as income, which the rich can obviously take great advantage of.Alexander PhiAlipson wrote:[

Obviously not. The only way you can argue is to assume I favor the rich over the poor, just because I don't want to take all their shit and give it to the poor? Canadians are not guaranteed liberty, they don't value it, some don't even know what it is; plus they're acclimated to an aristocracy. They want America to be like them. No point in arguing.
