I felt bad for that guy. He was probably just some guy living on Naboo, sitting on his couch watching the holotube one day, and he saw an underground advert to join up with the rebel alliance. He had a bit of a weight problem. He was just a shy guy, and his doctor said, "Porkins, maybe you should try one of those aggression training courses". But those training courses cost like 400 credits! He'd have to go into debt to the Huts in order to pay for it. And so he is watching this Rebel Alliance advert and thinks, "I could just join these guys, it's free, and I could lose a few pounds in training and make some new friends in the process." Basic training was 6 to 8 week program. It was perfect for his goals. So he joined Space ISIS and his last thoughts were why his ass was on the windshield as he tumbled into the Death Star.

Empire wasn't collectivist at all. Rebels were.
Empire was realpolitik and pragmatic. Member worlds governed themselves however they wanted. The Imperial government managed trade between the member worlds and dealt with law in space.
Look, for example, at the case of the worlds who tried to break away from the Old Republic. They were frustrated with the deadlock and pointlessness of the Senate. They just wanted self-government. What was wrong with that? Jedis showed up and slaughtered them for it.

Obviously you've thought about Lucas' world more than me, I'm going to have to give it some thought.

Right? Banning ideas you don't agree with... who has been doing that a lot recently, I can't remember exactly but it starts with s and ends with w.
I was getting pretty disappointed with the left over their no platforming and shutting down free speech and whatnot, but it turns out, the world is just chalked full of assholes, and shutting down your opponents platform is one of the last bipartisan activities we got.
I actually shutter to think what the reactionary left or even establishment Trump will look like... it won't be a Bernie, you can bet on that.
Hey, marketplace of ideas, eat shit and die.

I'm not particularly concerned about your son's indoctrination.
Shutting out your opponents ideas is a bad idea if your a lefty, and I expect it will be an equally bad idea when you are a righty.
Also, straight as an arrow, I just enjoy a bit of ribald shtick on occasion. Does that make my opinion more relevant?

John Bercow, speaker of the house has said there should be no invitation to Trump to speak to the house of commons during the planned visit to the UK. The invitation, he said, is a special honour not mandatory and Trumps racist and sexist comments make him unsuited to speak.
The speakers position is traditionally neutral and his comments have received criticism from some Conservative MPs. Opposition MPs have supported his stance. US congressman Joe Wilson has called it a slap in the face to Trumps Republican party.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
