Yes I was, and there was a time where my family got stuck on the highway because of a lack of gas... that being said, tell me when the increase of a product goes beyond profit and escalates to abuse? The same issue with Insulin... remember? How it went up over 300%...Martin Hash wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 1:54 pmObviously, TC wasn’t alive during the Nixon/Carter Price Control years.PartyOf5 wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 1:31 pmWho wants to take this one?The Conservative wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 12:49 pmSide note, I do wonder, why can't we have a limitation of how much a company can increase the cost of things?
Competition is good, but monopolies, not so much.

Insulin costs are due to regulations and protections put in place by first Obama, then again with Biden.
If the market was left unchecked, insulin would be cheap.

Well, then we either need to get government and other regulations out of the way of product, or we need to find a way to bring prices down to a reasonable cost. This level of increase is unintenable.

First learn supply and demand.
Then it will become apparent why the government can't just pick prices for things.

Command economies can operate for decades, as proven by the Soviet Union; the shelves are empty but because perversity is such a powerful motivator, a majority of people would rather nobody have something if they can’t.

It's true ... I shouldn't have said you can't let government set prices. I mean, you certainly CAN do that if you want. I meant it in the same way as when people say "You can't just drive through a red light at a busy intersection".
Really, you can.
But there are very foreseeable consequences.

For wood, the supply is there. There's is bullhit why it's so high, and it has nothing to do with demand.
It's about as false as the oil cartels reasoning.
