It's not immigration that has killed manufacturing jobs it is cheap imports from places like China or superior quality ones from Germany. Any alternatives result in higher prices for products without any increases in wages.Calculus Man wrote:Yup. For the record, this is not meant to be insulting to anyone who waits tables. I have done way worse things to pay the bills. I just think it's insane that we expect these jobs to replace jobs where people actually create things.

Also, my company literally has a subsidiary that manufactures products in the UK...with steel.

Well, now that you'll have sovereignty over your borders again, you can do something about those cheap imports.Montegriffo wrote:It's not immigration that has killed manufacturing jobs it is cheap imports from places like China or superior quality ones from Germany. Nobody is going to invest in re-starting an uncompetitive steel industry and Maggie made it clear there was going to be no more govt subsidies to prop it up.

Good lord...the point is that Britain can now determine for itself the appropriate tariff to place on Chinese goods. Also, you do know that Margaret Thatcher is fucking dead, right? Is her ghost going to haunt the chambers of Parliament if you go against her wishes or something?
