Yes. Criticising them can be perceived as grossly offensive.
Montegriffo wrote:Maybe you think that only the Jews are protected?
Where on earth did you get that idea? I expect all self-identified victim groups to line up in court claiming to be grossly offended.
Montegriffo wrote:Perhaps you think it is ok for one part of society to stir up hatred against another?
Do you really, really, think that that video in any way shape or form stirred up hatred against anyone. Besides the originator, of course.
Montegriffo wrote:Could be that you are hyperventilating over some dickhead getting fined for being grossly offensive?
I'm upset over the fact that a joke video, that isn't forced upon anyone, can get you convicted of a speech crime that also obviously was not committed.

If you think this is not a bad precedent and you won't see a lot worse coming down the road because of this I almost feel sorry for you and your lack of imagination. Prepare to be boiled, little frog.

The point of the matter is that you can't imagine yourself saying anything grossly offensive so none of this pertains to you personally. I hate to break it to you but you have said some grossly offensive shit on this board and it only takes one rando judge to agree with me for you to have to suffer under the same law that you are advocating for right now.

Go ahead, find something I've said which is grossly offensive and report me to the police.
I'm confident that nothing I've said on here would get me prosecuted.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

This is just getting silly. Of course, you are confident. You imagine yourself a good guy who could never be offensive. Now try to stretch your imagination just a tad and picture the Jon Donne crowd in control. Try to reexamine your positions in that new light. You are Jon Donne, who wants to see the destruction of your friend's farm. Same game under a different name.

I am beginning to disagree with DeO's assessment. It is becoming more and more clear that it was the former and not the latter. Pity.

I doubt it would be much of a problem finding a British LGBT group who'd report that as grossly offensive to your constabulary. I would still not report you, or even encourage a British LGBT group to report you, to the police simply to teach you a lesson on how problematic your views are.

 None so blind as those who will not see. "Bu, Bu, But, I am a good person" are their famous last words as they head off to be judged.

I really don't get the disconnect with ole Monty.

Pretty sure no judge would find that "grossly" offensive.
If I had said " do you want to gas the gays?" 23 times in a three minute video it would be different.
Whether an LGBT group finds it grossly offensive is neither here nor there, it has to be a Judge who finds it so.

22 times is okay? What's the number that turns it from really bad comedy to grossly offensive? Perhaps 18 times is the magic number? What if he did it just the one time?

It's nearly impossible to tell if I'm committing a crime, now, because what's "gross" to one is "delicious" to another. I find liver to be grossly offensive. Truly, horribly offensive. Can I get anyone who serves it thrown in jail?

I cannot underestimate how gross I think liver is. Except for kidneys, there is no grosser food. Fuck it, anyone who eats kidneys in front of me can go to jail too.

There's also one guy who goes topless and shows us all his belly fat, his body fur and his hanging boobs. He offends so many of us, and yes, it's gross.

Rape cage?
Why are all the Gods such vicious cunts? Where's the God of tits and wine?

Right. I keep forgetting that something can be "grossly offensive" even if not a single person except one judge arbitrarily finds it offensive.

But as long as you're "pretty sure". Guess you should excercise more self-censorship in the future. Then you might even be "confident" that you haven't inadvertently said something a judgw deems horribly offensive... to himself.
