But how much fight is acceptable to a True Believer?
Hiring a lawyer? A petition? Or do I have to stand outside and yell about it? Bomb City Hall on the weekend?
You’re really asking what I’d risk everything for. And the answer is nothing, unless I calculate that it’s worth the risk vs benefit to my family.
That’s the Silent Majority. That’s why we’ve gotten to this point. The gunmint has learned that it can do anything it wants, so long as it keeps the majority comfortable and the risk high. There is no limit to Soft Tyranny.
And that is why nothing will change until The Collapse. They won’t take your guns, they’ll just militarize the police, to render them useless.
They won’t ban free speech, they’ll just create special zones for it. They won’t censor everything, they’ll just allow media to consolidate into 5 companies, and trade favors with them. Maybe buy some board seats for the CIA.
They can’t be stopped until people are desperate, scared, and ready to act. And that’s not happening until the crash.
Yeah, your not going to give up what you busted your ass for and your proud of without pushback. Because you earned that food with sweat and toil. Props BroGrump
That's the problem with our society. People truly don't earn much. When you don't earn it you'll give it up easily. It's the same reason veterans shame the shit out of stolen valor posers. Likewise modern Americans have never had to earn their Liberties, so they don't cherish them.
In that hypothetical, I guess you'd be best off just saluting whatever flag is in front of you, and getting out of the area. You could take some potshots at the incoming army, and die in a hail of bullets, but there really wouldn't be any point to it.
Meh. The country betrayed its ideals a long time ago. Nothing left to fight for, unless it’s an army of jihadis.
Any other modern state would be the same to live under, so.... whatevs.
Absolutely useless.

Of course I’m not. I defend what’s mine, same as anyone. I’ve been known to risk, but only within a limit - same as any other adult. That’s why I said the kids have to start a revolution, as they always have.
I can get myself all wound up like Okee, and blow something up, or. march in the street, but that doesn’t feed my kids. It doesn’t teach them how to be anything other than a loser, either.
Tough and dumb is no way to go through life. Picking your battles wisely is how you survive.
Starting the fight has to be done by someone else. Someone else has to wake up. Some other folks looked like they would, but they folded. I wanted to help.
An actual fight? Only if I thought we'd win. Otherwise I'm running the other way.
Show me a safe path to win, and I'm with you. Knock on some doors, get some signatures. I can do that.
Really this can only work when it's so far gone that it doesn't matter anymore. Otherwise I'll go along to get along.
BroGrump, Okee is making good points here.
Sure it's smart to pick your battles, but it takes integrity to fight battles not knowing if you win, more so if you'll likely lose because its the right thing to do.
There's an old Western spoof from the 80s that has a ton of good lessons about what a person believes in and is willing to fight for. Check out this clip. What lessons should kids take from this ?

Defend what from whom?
You want to ‘defend’ America from Americans that don’t agree with you? Sounds more like you’re helping to destroy it.
The more you rant at me, the more we can all see how unhinged you are. Probably one bad day away from getting yourself in prison, and leaving the family on their own.
You’re no father, you’re a child with a ridiculous ego.

He’s railing like a child for storybook ideals. Real life is carefully strategized, and implemented. Not thrown away for raw emotion on hopeless causes.
You both seem to have gotten the impression that I’m some kind of pushover, because I won’t jump in the first wave over the trench. Remind yourselves that you don’t know me.

That 80s movies were terrible.
Seriously, if magic gun dude shows up in town, or comical black hat guy, get back home.
No you're not, you chicken shit coward mother fucker.
There isn't one example in all of human history where a group of people as feckless as you did anything other than get fucked by anyone and anything that came along.

My wife would fucking leave me if she ever thought I was such a fucking worthless excuse for a man.
You missed all the townsfolk not prepared to defend themselves so they get abused by the town bully.
You mean the ones that were familiar with this gang of psychos, and the fact that they lived in a lawless society, yet decided to hang around the same place unarmed, and then confront him?
At this point, it just annoys me to watch "Freedom Defenders" and "Constitutionalists" go on about the 2nd, when 1) it's largely irrelevant, and 2) they already watched and even supported the rest of the Bill of Rights being destroyed, while still babbling about 'resisting tyranny'. It's just LARPing, now.
That was on page 45. By page 48 SF is explaining why he won't fight for his own rights.
Don't rag on others for not fighting and then in the same thread defend your own lack of fight.
