Welp, looks like we all agree then. Air Force has officially replaced the Navy.
Now let's save a few hundred Bill, eh boys?

Re: North Korea News
You don't have ocean or space bases that can replace aircraft carriers yet, or anytime soon and even when that happens, the air force won't have replaced the navy. You guys are pitching terrible science fiction and using that to make ridiculous claims about not need a navy.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Welp, looks like we all agree then. Planet is 3/4 water, but we don't need any military ships.

The military illiteracy on this forum is truly staggering.DBTrek wrote:Planet is 3/4 water, but we don't need any military ships.

Are far from obsolete. Your sub orbital air forces bases are nowhere near replacing them, you scifi nerd. Go home your drunk.Speaker to Animals wrote:Carrier groups.

I said they were feasibly a few decades away from obsolescence. Whether we design and build suborbital strike aircraft is a different matter. Furthermore, we are probably losing at least one entire carrier group if we go to war with a major power. A carrier group is the dreadnought of our time. It's only a matter of time before, like the Bismark, one of them sits still at the bottom of the ocean, with all hands lost.
Huge boondoggle. Huge strategic blunder.

Re: North Korea News
The purpose of a carrier group is made moot by the strategic focus of our air and space doctrine. The time will come when those carrier groups need to be reduced to make way for suborbital bombers and strike aircraft, and more subsurface vessels.
That's not to say there won't be a surface navy. I am sure we will need cruisers and destroyers for a long time to come.
I am talking about the carrier group. The expensive boondoggle carrier groups sailing the seven seas as we speak, soaking up American capital for little in return.
Don't make this big God damned thing you sail around the ocean, with ten thousand or more American lives aboard, and enough capital invested to fund a small nation for years, and then expect it to survive a real war. It's not.
It's Bismark all over again.

Re: North Korea News
Grumps thinks the entire navy is obsolete right now and can be replaced by the air force and army. Even in few decades that won't be the case. It's wise to not spend all your naval resources on carrier groups, but the navy will play an important role in the military mix for the foreseeable future.Speaker to Animals wrote:I said they were feasibly a few decades away from obsolescence. Yeah I'm not getting this anti navy meme. Even Sparta had to build ships at some point.
Anyway at least we don't need a fucking ramp.
