Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
The Ukrainian military was the best & largest in Europe; apparently, that doesn’t mean much.
If NATO attacked in force right now, they couldn’t match the number of soldiers, equipment or ammunition manufacturing capability of Russia. It’d take 18 months, and by that time millions on our side would be dead.

With “overpopulation” it could make the list of life more tolerable to the sheep.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 2:55 pmThe Ukrainian military was the best & largest in Europe; apparently, that doesn’t mean much.

There is a time for good men to do bad things.

Defense always has the advantage. Now that the Russians are entrenched, forget it. Zelensky is feeding his male population into a meat grinder for nothing. This would be funny if it wasn’t so sick.

The Russians have built a defense in depth. At least 3 lines deep, as many as 5 lines deep in places. It's difficult to imagine the scope of this. This is like the Battle of Kursk, where the Soviets had time to prepare deep defenses against superior German equipment. The German's just go ground down.
The Ukrainians are stuck on the screening line right now, they have not advanced to the primary defenses yet. Ukraine seems fully committed to the battle, this will not be quick, both sides will have horrible losses. Again, not a war in which Big Arrow offenses are really possible.

It might take longer Dr Hash. The US Military is designed for fast strike, supported by heavy Air and carrier based Air power. But we aren't deep. We'd expend our initial munitions in a month or so, and we don't have the production capability to sustain. We traded that for cheap profits over the last 30 years.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 2:55 pmThe Ukrainian military was the best & largest in Europe; apparently, that doesn’t mean much.

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
We are 4-6 days into the counteroffensive, depending on when you believe it started. So far, Russia appears to repulsing Ukraine attacks while inflicting severe losses. Ukraine has already lost at least 10% of their Bradleys, perhaps twice as many. They only had 100 to start. A number of Leopard 2s have been killed as well. At least 3 but perhaps twice as many again.
Ukraine has lost at least 4% of it's total armored force. In other terms, they are losing 1% per day.
Here's Willy again, Aussie Vet, Ukraine supporter, but pretty fair analysis of things.

Some of the images are disturbing, looks like a Russian slaughter
I suspect Ukraine will make some break throughs. They fight hard and have good equipment. But ultimately they will be ground down and depleted to combat ineffectiveness.

Sending them all of our surplus was really just a boondoggle so that the MIC could order replacements. The money presses go brrrrrrrrr.
I'm still in awe at the effectiveness of the propaganda machine.

You can't expect success by giving an idiot a weapon and tell him to go to war.

Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine
Half the Ukrainian mine and obstacle clearing tanks have been destroyed. They had about 10 to start. 20% of the Bradleys and about that number of Leopards have been destroyed.
If Ukraine doesn't have the Russians on the verge of collapsing after this first week, they are going to fail badly. They are just losing too much equipment. Sounds like 150 of all kinds in the first week, or 20 a day. Not sustainable. In a month they will be out of equipment. Zelensky is already calling for more Leopards from the West.
Medevev was quoted as saying they will take Kiev and destroy the Zelensky regime, citing terror attacks on Russia as a reason they cannot be negotiated with.
That will take time, another year I'd say if things continue like this.
