My ancestors were some of the minutemen. No one of import vs those that made history, but it sounds more like that to me.
I'd wager the Committee of Public Safety thought of themselves as being rather like minutemen too.
Here is a question, is it wrong having people band together to defend themselves when the state in many cases will not?
Robespierre didn't think so. Personally, I am suspicious of people banding together to do much of anything.
HAIL!

Castro, Lenin & Mao didn’t have to worry about pushback; the peasants didn’t have guns.

Was he also the reason we say kill all the lawyers?

It seems to me to be counter-intuitive. Especially since he was one of the ”influencers” of the French Revolution if I remember correctly?

Shakespeare said “kill all the lawyers” though he didn’t mean how we interpret it.

Sounds like a Comite de Salut Public.
Not gonna lie, had to look up that up, should not have. I'm well aware of the Committee of public safety
They did a lot early on. One of the reasons they were founded is because the judges and constables could not be trusted. Once those positions were elected by the locals and everything was good. But when those elected officials wouldn't apply the Kings Law, they replaced them with selected loyalists by decree.

More than one appointed judge or sherriff was literally run out of town on a rail.

Without a means to self defense you get tyranny, with a means of self defense you get civil war.

The Committee filled the authority vacuum left by the breakdown of monarchical law and order. They were mostly peaceful. ;)
