Re: Draining the Swamp
My hero, Teddy Roosevelt saved liberty from the emerging aristocracy being created by the Uber-wealthy merchant class, the so-called Gilded Age, at the very beginning of the 20th century.

I'm good with what TR did, they were pragmatic steps that needed to happen.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 3:51 pmMy hero, Teddy Roosevelt saved liberty from the emerging aristocracy being created by the Uber-wealthy merchant class, the so-called Gilded Age, at the very beginning of the 20th century.
I'm classic liberal and people crap on me for being ok with TR, but you have to be pragmatic as well. The robber barons were out of hand. Monopolies aren't free market capitalism, and they don't serve for a free competitive society.
This all started out as a Tax debate. The only that would serve the country well would be a Flat Tax. One rate for persons, one rate for business, just One Page for the entire tax code. No deductions on anything. No deductions for marriage, no deductions for sex changes, and no deductions for green energy.

Flat taxes simply subsidize the rich.
We have decades of evidence that MMT works. That means the only reason for taxes is to influence investment, and prevent aristocracy.

Teddy "free presidential power from the binds of the Constitution" Roosevelt?
Teddy "Interstate Commerce Commission" Roosevelt?
Teddy "take whatever affirmative measures would advance the public welfare as long as they were not specifically prohibited" Roosevelt?
Teddy "moving beyond the shopworn protection of individual rights, especially property rights" Roosevelt?
Teddy "the whole idea of natural rights is scientifically wrong and morally obsolete" Roosevelt?
Teddy "the right to property can be justified only if it benefits the community" Roosevelt?
Teddy "bring about social justice through redistribution" Roosevelt?
Yeah, I can see that you would dig him.

I don't like the ruling class or the merchant class. I like it when they are fighting each other.

Liberty benefits the talented and penalizes the incompetent. On its face, it should be rejected by a majority of the population.
