Actually should eliminate corporate taxes altogether; tax on productivity, and a triple dip; already taxing the employee income and capital gains.

Annnnnnd what? Instead of paying zero percent, they'll flood the money back for Uncle Sam?

Pure distraction, being propagated by your Corporate Masters.
I was talking about the reason why so many businesses incorporate in Delaware. Please spare me the teenage angst.

You know, small government folks don't actually trust big business. At all. But we recognize that increasing the government's ability to tax creates more influence for big business to buy.

You pretend to be some cynical realist, but then you're surprised when big business corrupts a few politicians and bureaucrats? Give me a damn break, man.

Before I read your post, my gut said that we should still have ~15% corporate flat tax, since we've had it for a long time, and gradual change is preferable. But you know what? Screw it. Smitty is right. All these retarded taxes are half of the problem. Every damn generation naive people like you give the government more taxation power to protect you from the big, bad profitmen. And every damn generation the profiteers get more powerful. Time to try something new.

McKay. Can you explain for me how keeping a corporate tax gives more power to the government? Are you talking about all the special handouts they can provide?

So then your grand point here is that 'big corps won't pay it, so just get rid of it'. And if Sam ain't getting it from them, who do you suppose he's going to look at to make up the difference?

Remember, everything that happens in Washington has to be "revenue neutral" now. Because they are fine with rearranging deck chairs, so long as the government take never shrinks. That would mean that the terrorists won.
SJWs are a natural consequence of corporatism.

I'm not saying eliminate all these taxes obviously, they do need revenue, just the corporate tax; taxing productivity is not what you want to do, the "corporate tax" is a wholly political tax, doesn't make economic sense, it's just a populist sop, but the sales tax in Connecticut is only 6%, so I would rather raise that tax, a tax on consumption, to something like 15%, and get my revenue there, while just eliminating the 9% corporate tax altogther.

I could still see there being a couple benefits from a corporate income tax.

Not sure how it works in Canada, but in our country, big corporations have an innate advantage over small businesses when it comes to regulatory compliance and all that. Not just influence over the rules themselves, but rather the fact that a full-time compliance attorney doesn't dent your margins as much if you're a huge going concern. Then of course there are the advantages that corporations have always had over proprietorships, like less liability for taking bad risks. For those reasons, I wouldn't mind having a ~10% flat tax on corporations (especially public ones).

The more I talk to the GCFs of the world, who just want to punish size and success, the more I think you're right.

With the power to tax comes a tax code, which can be shaped to benefit certain businesses (and harm others if they don't donate to your campaign).

The big corporations aren't paying it now, dude. That's the point. Look at Apple's overseas cash hoard. They do not HAVE to pay our stupid taxes.

For whatever reason, consumption taxes are absolutely anathema to some Americans. I can't explain why, but it really raises their hackles. Maybe it has something to do with our huge shopping culture. I have very intelligent friends and relatives who share a strong conviction that, even if the tax burden were lessened elsewhere, the psychological effects of raising prices through a sales tax would devastate the American economy.

I'm not sure I agree with them, but these are not naturally panicky people, so their predictions of economic doom did make me think.

I've never stated or implied any such thing. But the concept of "too big to fail" is cancer on our society.

Well, in Canada, most small businesses are corporations too, they get a "small business deduction", but that only takes the rate down to 10% from 15%, as a small business, I'd be willing to let the big corporations have their 15% back, if I could get my 10% back, taxing those big corporations more doesn't do anything for my business, but as a small business, I'm closer to bankruptcy all the time, unlike the big corporations, that 10% could be the difference between life and death for the company, when times get lean.

Maybe not intentionally. But trust me, you said it.
