Not addressing substantive attacks on his record, or engaging with the electorate also ensures he lose.. You are half way there to changing your position..

Well you can't completely disappear, but you want to minimize appearances without going overboard, if you are Biden. The Democrats are not substantively attacking his record in a way that moves the needle, and he doesn't need to engage that much with the electorate to beat them either. If he doesn't commit a huge gaffe that is the equivalent of political suicide, he's going to win this nomination, he just needs to stay out of his own way.

Thus he has to talk, and if he talks he loses. So..

Wrong. He can talk a little and win, he is doing so as we speak, none of his gaffes thus far have moved the needle in any meaningful way. So clearly your assumption that him talking at all will immediately cost him the nomination is a faulty perception.

But you also want to minimize the chances he puts his foot in his mouth, if you are running his campaign. They could dial back his appearances by half and coast to victory, if he doesn't hang himself.

Meh, he always gaffed like this in the past, you are reading too much into it. Age isn't helping but it's hardly the only reason he's mispeaking as often as he does.

Joe is every bit as mentally competent as the white kids.

That gaffe literally did zero damage to his campaign in the Democrat primary. You are making mountains out of molehills.

Having the Parkland mass shooting survivors over for a beer summit while he was vp last year definitely helped assuage any doubts as to his competency.

Biden is weak. The 2020 Dem Field is even weaker. He ain't running a race against Usain Bolt dude, yet, you seem to think he is.

Biden is going to ride the lesser of evils thing for the win.
