Also, not sure about Canadian law, but I suspect in most of the US when they do this, a person has the right to continue walking down the sidewalk, through their blockade, and once they actively put their hands on said person, he is greenlighted to implement operation haymaker. The democrat prosecutors will still try to destroy this person, but nobody has the right to physically block you on the sidewalk, especially with the implied threat of violence if you attempt to continue on your way.

No. In Canada there is the Queen's Peace, blocking your path is a common assault, but you can only invoke self defense if they attack you, if you punch them, that's not self defense, they'll get charged, but so will you.

Punching them will be the more serious charge, they will get common assault, but you will get aggravated assault.

That's the angle Cantifa is exploiting, they want you to punch them so they can play the victim.
