I was always curious where DB would land in the fray.

I figure I may only have a few minutes to find out...

Unless of course we get DB hooked on the MHF... in which case - no rush... he'll be here 24/7.

Land in what fray?

Over whether Smitty is Daffy or Elmer Fudd?
Depends how much Crown Royal he's had, right?

I wonder if Smitty keeps all his handguns wrapped in old Crown Royal bags like my father-in-law... :think:

I believe the Left and Right do in fact need each other, I also believe they need a third wheel. With this third wheel balance can be restored to the country. Ideally this third wheel would be a libertarian(little L) leaning party as I believe there are large segments of both the left and the right who have strong libertarian leanings. They just either are not aware enough of their libertarian options, or believe in voting for a candidate they perceive as having a chance to win over voting for the candidate who best represents their beliefs.

Says the libertarian..

What most people want is non-shitty government. Libertarianism is designed to maximize the shit.

The fray of whether there is useful balance that can be struck between left and right. The right protecting the interests of the dominant groups from being entirely undermined by revolutionary forces and the left speaking on behalf of the non-dominant groups protecting them from being flattened by the dominant forces.

The argument on the forum is that the left has done too good a job and that the non-dominant forces pretty much have the upper hand and need some flattening...

I'm not saying they are wrong... they have excellent points to make.

We need rebalancing and the Trump presidency may very well be the right medicine in many cases...

But we don't need to eradicate either side....

Although Smitty and StA would beg to differ.

Well ... historically I guess I'd say it's possible for the two forces to work in tandem, or as a check upon eachother's agendas.
* Most western democracies

It's also possible for them not to.
* USSR
* Saudi Arabia
* Cuba
* Philipines
* etc.

Humanity can operate under all three conditions - Left only, Right only, or mixed.

All three systems have also failed at different times and morphed into one of the other two variants.

Generally though, the right is going to represent the tradition of success that has allowed a people to flourish and sustain themselves to the point where the left can finally spring into existence and make arguments for modifying society/government. Sure, the political right/conservatism can become outmoded, outdated, and obsolete. Yet this happens at a much slower pace than the speed at which the left can train-wreck their societies with ill-conceived or untested ideas.

Yet making beneficial progress requires actually attempting progress, right?
So it's tricky.

Not libertarian, that is why I don't want to see libertarian ideologies to dominate politics. I just want them to be one of three major ideologies in order to balance the power. I believe the combination of left, right, and libertarianism will result in laws and policies that better reflect the general populaces opinions as everything would require at least two ideologies to agree on it in order for something to get passed instead of just a single ideology who just happens to have 51% of representatives at the moment.

They don't represent hardly anything. They are like the hipster wing of the progressive movement.

Libertarianism has gotten a free pass on this forum for far too long.

LOL - that's the argument I'm making over in the SCOTUS thread. You said it more eloquently than I. *hat tip*
